I just wanted to know how well the CRICUT cuts chipboard. I 've never bought the deep blade and housing unit. But now I'm thinking about it so i can cut my own chipboard stars!
Is it worth the expense?
tia!!
it's so-so (unless i don't know the magic trick!). the chipboard doesn't seem to stick well on the mat, so it moves around and doesn't get a nice cut.

I say yes.... I use a piece of tape around the outside edges of my chipboard, because it does not stick well. I have one mat designated for just chipbaord so I dont ruin the others.
it is hit and miss on getting it to stick. I find a newly washed (just dish soap and a good scrub left to air dry) makes it stick better. I've only used the stuff that comes with your paper order, not the thicker stuff. But it was very worth the price of the blade!

I've never tried chipboard so I'm sorry, no words of wisdom. I sometimes have a difficult time with just plain old cardstock.
If you want a guide on how to set the cricut for different papers and such... go to
www.aboverubiesstudio.com
she has a guide that i believe is free to download. i have a hard copy of it and use it constantly.
I know that she recommends using the deep housing blade...but do you have an Expression? Because if you do there is a multi cut button...i would just set the multi cut to cut 3 times (there are descriptions on how to change it i think on you tube) and set it to one of the deeper blade settings. That may work for you.

Cort: Thanks for the link. I just downloaded and printed out the guide....very comprehensive!!

Good tips here! The multi cut and deep cutting blade work the best. And taping it down is helpful as well. I love to do this to make my own "thickers"!

Thanks for tip on the multi cut buttom. I always wondered what it would be used for!

I have a deep blade housing unit and enjoy it. I tape my chipboard on (really thick does not work) and turn on multi-cut and away I go. I do use packing tape though and not scotch tape.
