*Scrap SNOBS?!*

I was sending a message to some one, and it got me thinking. Have you ever been a victim of scrapsnobs? You know the crazy clique of ladies that remind you alarmingly of the popular kids in highschool? Are you one of those ladies? The reason I ask is because once I moved from Omaha Nebraska, to Las Vegas Nevada- I went from having Archiver's GLORIOUS ARCHIVER'S to having worse than nothing. I say worse than nothing because I ventured to a scrap store (which has sense gone out of business btw) and signed up to do a crop a month before it actually happened. When I arrived, I was literaly made to sit in a corner facing the wall, by myself and NO ONE talked to me. No one, it was awful and I left after the first hour.

Then I found ACOT :inlove:

When my friends and I went to crops I used to talk to every one, this was such a weird concept for me. One of those, "Did I forget to wear deoderant today?" kind of moments. Now I am just super afraid to try again. Is this normal behavoir? I found a new scrapstore but it intimidates me. lol

What a terrible experience! I hate to hear that any scrapbooker would be so snobby!
We will always welcome you with arms wide open here!!!

oh that's terrible! I thought when I read the title that you were talking about people like me who are snobby about paper brands, lol! That's not even really true, I just have my faves. But being snobby like those women is just ridiculous! we are adults now!

I hoped that behavior like that ended with adulthood. However, sometimes... people can be mean. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

So sorry you had such a bad experience, and so GLAD you found ACOT!

I would like to think your experience is rare, however. Whenever I have gone to scrap related events people are the warmest and friendliest, and I often don't know anyone - maybe an acquaintence.

When I worked at the LSS our crop room was always open for use when classes were not going on. People were friendly!! Newcomers were always welcome - croppers shared ideas, gave advice when asked, shared tools. It's a fun place to be!

Try it again sometime if you feel like packing things up to crop. Do you have a friend you could go with? I can be rather shy going to things like that not knowing a soul.

Here's your solution - come back to Omaha :) We know where the nice ladies are!

I have run into some snobby ladies at crops in the area. The worst experience I ever had was when one lady lectured me for over an hour about how my eyelets and brads were going to rust and ruin my books. She wouldn't stop!

But, for the most part, most of my experiences are great. It helps that I usually now go with friends though.

I know the feeling well!

The first store I tried here in the Houston area, I had a simliar experience. When I went to crops in San Antonio, the store provided an 8 foot table, and as long as you stayed on your table, you could bring as much stuff as you wanted. When I would go for an all day crop, I took everything - my computer, my printer, my cricut, and all my stuff! When I showed up at the store in Houston, you would have thought I was coming from Mars! Most of the ladies were teachers, (sorry Art_Teacher) and they acted just like high schoolers and basically ignored me. They talked all day/night about stuff and activities they were involved in, and no one even tried to get to know me.

Oh, and they only had these little 4 x 2.5 foot tables, so in order to use my electronics, they did put me against the wall/counter where I could get an electrical outlet.

I went back again a second time, thinking that maybe it was a fluke. Nope, same thing all over again. Only this time, I didn't take everything, only worked on stuff where I had preprinted my pics, and wasn't going to use my cricut (I used their die cuts instead). But as far as the socializing goes, it was a repeat. They talked among themselves, and didn't try to include me at all.

There is an Archiver's here in Houston, but they also looked at me strange when I asked about 'buying' two tables for the crop. This location uses the 4 x 2.5 foot size, and that just isn't enough room for me! LOL!

I gave up, and decided to find something on line. In December, I stumbled upon a site that ended up closing at the end of year, but two of the ladies invited me to another site, and Megamy is on the DT there. It was her invitation that got me here. Except for going back to SA occassionally, and the October Cherry get-together here in Houston, or another scrapbooking cruise, I probably won't go to live crops again. Give me cyber-crops anyday!

Don't tempt me, we might have to anyway! DHs job is being deleted here and Offutt is one of the bases where they have their job and I miss the snow!! Plus my BFF and kids Godmother lives there. I'd be set!

Oh, what a bummer. In June I was still on crutches, having broken my foot on Mother's Day, so my scrappy room wasn't entirely setup. But it is now! Are you coming for the October Cherry event?

What Houston store was it? I want to be sure I don't go in there!! I've never had any problems with snobs, but then the ACOT crop last year was the only crop I've been to. Now you've got me scared to venture out of my house and go to any crop!!!

I had that happen a couple years ago and never went to another crop until I came here and met Theresa (Venus70) and SarahA. I haven't cropped with Sarah yet but had a ball with Theresa and her friend. Now I can't wait until the next time. So hang in there and don't give up.

As a whole military wives normally stay within the ranks and some NOT all offfice wives can be snobby,
this change when I brought my cricut to a crop in Germany rank went out the window LOL

I have a question for you. When you go to crops, do you ever make the first move to get to know people? I'm not IN ANY WAY blaming you for your bad experience!!! I wasn't there, so I have no idea what it was like! It's just that in my own life, I've heard people claim that other people are being rude because they ignore them, but these people don't make any effort to get to know the other people also.

I'm a very talkative, gregarious person, so I always go out of my way to meet new people. At CKC, I met and exchanged phone numbers and emails with 5 new people that I am sure will become great friends since they all go to my lss. Did these women approach me? No, I approached them. Would they have ignored me if I hadn't started conversation? Probably so.

Anyway, my point is that maybe the women you met didn't talk to you because they were shy or they thought that you were happy doing your own thing. It's hard for some people to make new friends.

Then again, it could be that the women you were around were evil harpies! I'm not one of those people that thinks all scrapbookers are sunshine and rainbows! There are some scrapbookers out there that are hell on wheels!
