How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
How do you organize your papers and embellishments (stickers, ribbons, rub-ons, die cuts, etc)?  I am trying to get my scrapbook papers organized to keep me from buying the same papers over and over.  Also, I am hoping that it makes my scrapbooking process a little quicker!    I have the Cropper Hopper Paper holders and dividers that I can use.

Thanks for your helpful ideas!!!!

I have shoe box tubs, one for paper scraps and one for embelishments. I use a zipper 12x12 case with dividers for all my papers. I have a fishing tackle box with cases inside that holds pens, glue, ink, brads, fasteners, scissors, and all that kind of junk, and then a bigger plastic tub holding my stickers and stencils. The stickers are seperated into baggies by type. I really dont have a lot of stuff, and this is a pretty mobile way for me to store it all.

Thanks for the quick responses and welcomes!  I have been lurking for a couple of months.  Do you organize papers by theme, brand, or color?

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
the cropper hopper system for the paper is AMAZING!!!! there are so many ways you can organize your paper with them that there is no wrong way. i have the storage drawers from target (they have seven drawers with covers on them- a must with little kids running around). then i bought bigger drawers for paint, ribbon and my 3-d embellishments. I store them in plastic baby food containers from gerber. thankfully my son was a big eater and had like two or three containers at each meal time so i have quite a few, but post an ad on craigs list and i'm sure someone would be willing to save them for you. they work great and i fell like for all the trees i've chopped down with my paper supply i'm doing my part to reuse!!! to store my ribbon i use the floss things found in the sewing dept. any other questions...i'm a super organized chic and my husband, well....opposites attract for a reason!!!!!!!!!!

PPs by manufacturer and CS all together.

Although, I leave all of my new pps together for a bit so I can browse through them. :winkb:

I use a clear plastic over the door shoe caddy(Target) to store embellishments. That way I see them & use them.  Paper storage in Cropper Hopper vertical files.  CS by color & PP by manufacturer. Scraps are sorted in an accordian file folder by color.

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
I just recently spent a weekend sorting pp by manufacturer and cardstock sorta of by color.  I also organized my stickers, embellies, rubons, etc alphabetically by manufacturer so it is easier to find and match to the paper I am using.  I am liking it so far but need to get used to it.  I used to sort by type of paper but then would buy duplicates and am hoping to avoid doing that in the future.

I store my cardstock and embellishments by color and most of my patterned paper by manufacturer.  I keep Christmas and themed paper separate and if I only have a few sheets of one manufacturer then I store those by color too.

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
I have homemeade cropper hopper type paper containers that I "designed" from cardboard boxes. They work great! I have mine mostly by color, but if I get a collection that I really want to use together I keep it on one end.
Stickers and rubons I have in a photobox by theme. The lid doesn't fit because they all are too tall, but it's easy to grab the box and flip through to find what I need.

Ribbons have been an ongoing struggle for me because the lengths vary sooo much. I used to use a plastic embellie container with floss bobbins which was ok, but I didn't like how it creased the ribbon and didn't fit large pieces well and I still had no where for rolls. I am now converting to a system of large plastic cookie type kitchen containers. This is better because I can put the floss bobbins in, cards w/ multiple ribbons in, rolls, wads, spools, whatever, it all goes in and I can dig throug it with ease. The containers are organized by color. I also have some old Prima got flowers jars that I put little scraps in that are only a few inches long and not worth losing in the bigger jars - also organized by color.

Other things like raw chipboard, bling, felt shapes, transparencies, charms, etc, I have on a clip it up. I really like this system, but don't really have room for it on my desk so I'm planning to convert it to a wall mounted version. I'm going to get some of those thin metal towel racks and then I can put them up the wall in a row and hang all the bags from that. Then i will be able to flip through it easily, but it won't be taking up 4 square feet of my desk!

HTH and good luck getting organized, it really does save so much time when you can see your stuff and put your hands on it quickly!

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
 Welcome to ACOT!

I have my pattern papers mostly organized on shelves by company.  I also have a shelf for vintage papers, beach papers and travel papers by themes as I do these quite a lot.  I have a shelf for specialty papers like rice papers, vellums and grass cloth.  My card stock is sorted by color families also on shelves.

I use a clip it up for ephemera, beads, and metal embellishments plus a side drawer for the larger ones.  My ribbons are in seal bags by colors and my flowers are in jars of all shapes and sizes.  Paints and Glimmer Mist are kept in another drawer, inks in a drawer and stamps in big plastic bins.

I hope this helps.  Everyone has their own way of organizing...but I sure picked up a lot of good tips here that have helped!

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
I use the cropper hopper paper storage too.  I've had it for several years and can't imagine using anything else.  I have CS sorted by color, patterned paper that isn't a collection sorted by color.  I also have patterned paper and collections sorted by all the holidays, girl, boy, travel, pets, etc.   The dividers that come with the cropper hopper are very useful.  I have a cheap bookcase that I store all my paper, albums, scrappy magazines, etc.  I use pegboard to showcase my embellies - it's very cheap.  Of course, like most good scrappers, I have so much that I also have the clip it....the verdict is still out on this.  Only b/c I haven't scrapped much lately so therefore haven't used it much.  I think I'm going to change my ribbon storage to the ribbonring.  I have my ribbon stored in several different items and it just isn't working for me.  My smaller embellies like brads and eyelets are stored in a nuts and bolts kinda thing I got at a home improvement store and that is hung on  my wall next to my pegboard.  Hmmmm....maybe it would be easier to show you pictures BUT I'd have to clean it up first:)  If you want me to send you pics, pm me.  Welcome to ACOT and just have fun organizing!

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
I feel like I am fairly organized, though I do wish I had a better way to organize my paper.  Currently I have 1) an industrial 12x12 paper unit and another wheeled unit I bought on-line that holds 12x12 (and of course 8 1/2 x 11) in slats.  I have it organized mostly by color (the 8 1/2 by 11) and the 12x12 is more or less organized by type:  floral, textured, vellum.  However, as I amass more & more paper, and I have ALOT, that system does not seem to be working so well.  There are just too many types of paper and also, alot of the paper goes together, but some may be stripes & some florals may go with the striped paper etc.- you see what I mean.

Buttons & Prima flowers are in 5 craft cases bought at Target, separated by color.  Ribbon is in a 7 drawer rolling plastic case also from Target, organized by type - American Elements, ribbon on cards not spools etc.  Flat stickers are organized by type- flowers, animals etc.  I have a 12 drawer rolling cart for 3 dimensional stickers- each drawer holds various ones- Christmas/Fall; Wedding/Graduation; Animals, Vacation and so on.  Two other 12 drawer units hold other things- scissors, idea books, quotation books, Cricut cartridges, sticker alphabets and so on.  Everything (every drawer) on everything is labeled as to what is inside.  It works but I am slowly going to need to add more (I have nothing for brads yet and just ordered about 20 border punches that are large to store).  I have 1/2 of a 14x14 room for my stuff so I have some room, but it has certainly grown from I first started scrapbooking.

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
I organize by color w/ Cropper Hopper and usually throw my pattern paper in there by color as well. I have a 12X12 box (that I got my ACOT Bazzill in) where I keep pattern paper scraps and then use 12X12 clear folders labeled by color for colored scraps. I also use the clear folders  for themed items like stickers, rubons, three demensionals.  I use bead organizers for my small embellishments.   I have an old dresser that I use for my stamps, ink, etc. I need to find a better way to organize my ribbon.

Badly!  No matter how many times I think I have it sorted to find what I want easily, the first time I use the new system, it fails.  I've given up on it ever being sorted! :-D
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.

Re: How do you organize your scrapbook papers and other items?
Thank you all for the information.  I am glad to see that others are benefiting from the replies, too.   I pulled everything out of my scrapbooking closet and was suprised to see how much stuff I have accumulated over the last three years.  I made a visit to Target to look at the storage containers that were mentioned.  I use the wooden modular storage containers from Target already.  I love the pegboard idea but I don't know if I can make it work in my small area.
DaisyLou, I store my ribbon on wooden doll pens and keep them in a metal pail on my scrapbooking desk.
