I think there is a way right now that you can set it so that when you roll your mouse over the thumbnail, a bigger preview will pop up. I can't remember how I did it one time, but I did. That might help you a little bit to see them better.

Down on the bottom left you have to Turn Off Summary Page and it will show you all the new uploads from every gallery.

You can also click on "Use Large Thumbnails" and it will make those bigger, although you get far fewer per page if you do that.
