Cherry Blossom

Card Making Newbie
Hi Everyone!

I loooove cards and I'm really excited to start making them -- but -- I'm a bit at a loss for where to start for certain things. I thought maybe some of the other super-amazingly-awesome cherry chicas might be able to give me a little guidance.

I think the biggest thing that "freaks me out" is that I don't know what size paper to start with. I feel like a cards "MUST" have an envelope, so with that in my head I have a hard time just picking up any paper and making a go of it. Is that just me being wonky and Hallmark-trained? Do you usually/always/never have envelopes of the same size for your cards?

Anyone out there want to share a few helpful hints and maybe share a quick story about when you first started making cards?

Thankies in advance!!!

Re: Card Making Newbie
Hi. I don't make too many cards. I suppose you could make whatever sized card that you want. I think I would start with an 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock - and cut it in half. Then you would fold it in half for the card. I know you can purchase envelopes at most craft stores. There are a LOT of cards in the gallery to inspire you. Here are a few links to look at:

I hope this helps you.

Re: Card Making Newbie
I find card making to be very rewarding for a number of reasons. First of all, I think it's nice that you can create something fairly quickly in the form of a card - it all depends on how much you want to do on it. I don't know if you have any stamps, but you may want to look for some greeting-type sets. I like being able to use my scraps, so if you are also a scrapbooker, you can use little snippets of paper, etc on a card.

Good luck to you, and post some pictures (if you have time) of your creations!

Re: Card Making Newbie
I usually buy a pack of blank cards w/envelopes from Joann's or Michael's when they are on sale. I also have a couple of the DCWV boxes of cards. There's usually 3 or 4 colors of cs in each box. That makes it easier to whip up a card. My rule is if the kids want to go to a party, they must make or help me with the card. I keep all my scraps in a box & it's my goto box whenever I'm making a card.
