Ready for some dessert?

Paletas, refreshing Mexican popsicles, come in an endless array of delicious combinations. I had my first taste from a street vendor in Ensenada, Mexico, in 1982. I had a creamy white pineapple coconut one. It was so delicious with the surprising bits of pineapple and shredded coconut embedded in the sweet horchata milk bar. Forty years later, I can find these tasty treats in the grocery store freezer, but they always take me back to that warm day in a fascinating country.

My NSD challenge is for you to add a pop-up element to your project. I adore the surprise of finding a pop-up inside a lovingly crafted card, as one of the delights among the flips, flaps and tucks of a mini-journal, or a special fold-out on a scrapbook layout. All paper-craft projects are welcome for this challenge.

Your pop-up can be a simple as a V-fold mechanism or more elaborate, like a box garden filled with flowers. If you are new to pop-ups, here are some tutorials and videos to get you started. If you have a favorite pop-up style, please share it with us.

All submissions must be new.
No combining with any other Message Board or NSD challenges.
May be combined with the 25 item challenge.
One entry per person.
Winner will be selected by random drawing.
Entries close at midnight EST on 05/15/2023.

There is a special gallery for this challenge. When you upload a picture and description of your entry, please be sure to click “Add Submission to Contests/Challenges” and select NSD 2023-Mexican Popsicles Challenge. The prize winner will be randomly selected from the entries in that gallery.

So pretty. The butterfly looks like it is ready to take flight. What a lovely surprise for the recipient. I'm so pleased this inspired you to try something new. Isn't that one of the great things about NSD?

It appears all the NSD galleries were closed on Monday 05/15/23 at 12:01 am EST (9:01 pm PST) instead of midnight on Monday 05/15/23 which is what I thought was the closing time. Sorry you missed the deadline by an hour and a half. It was a surprise to me, too.
