Welcome to my Sketch Outside the Box Challenge!
For this challenge, you can choose any sketch you'd enjoy recreating, but you must reimagine at least one of the elements within the sketch as a mixed media element! You knew I was going to throw that mixed media in there, right? Don't run away, those of you scared of MM, I didn't hint mixed media in the title for a reason...
You don't have to be messy to use mixed media! It can be as simple as splatter with a misting nozzle or watering some stamping ink for splatters. You can ink a cup and use it to create circles on your page instead of paper circles, or free hand some simple watercolor shapes. I have created 3 examples. I will post the full photos and the sketch below, and you can visit my gallery to see close ups. I will also include some screen shots from my phone of my album of saved sketches which could easily translate into mixed media elements. Please cite your sketch source!
For this layout, I used texture paste with pigmented watercolor to create confetti stars. I then added multicolored splatter and sequins in place of the sketch's stars. This sketch is from Laura Rumble on Instagram.
For this layout, I used texture paste as the shaded interested behind the photo strip. I tinted white texture paste with Prima pigments. This sketch is from Laura Whitaker on Pinterest.
For this layout, I used sprays/watercolors to create an organic mixed media shape behind the photos in place of the circles on the sketch. This sketch is from Laura Whitaker on Pinterest.
Here are a couple shots of sketches I have saved in an album on Instagram, which I thought would work well with mixed media elements. If you want to play along, but are stuck on how to incorporate MM, just PM me and I'll be glad to help!!
A random winner will be chosen to win this awesome prize from Simple Stories!
I cannot wait to see what you all create! Please create an original layout for this challenge - no combining with other challenges. Place a layout photo and the sketch used within the same reply on this thread. Deadline for uploading your challenge layout to this thread is 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, May 10.
