Newbie Questions

Hi. My name is Kat and I'm both new to the board and relatively new to scrapping. I've been (traditional) scrap-booking for about a year; but, I just started recently to branch out into learning new techniques and layouts. My supplies are currently very limited since I'm a beginner. I just ordered my very first Eyelets (& the setting tools).
I have a few newbie questions:
1. What is the best way(s) to adhere scrapbook papers together? I've noticed a lot of layouts that incorporate multiple papers (with different textures/colors) and want to try it; but, I'm not sure how best to do it.
2. I don't have a die-cutting machine yet (and don't anticipate being able to afford one for a while) - what are some good alternatives for getting cut-out(s) for pages?
3. What is the best way(s) to adhere ribbon and other fabrics onto a page? adhesive runners?
4. I have some of those extender posts for scrapbooks; but, when I use them the cover of my scrapbook still ends up looking like it's overflowing because of the thickness of the pages. Does that mean I need to use more extenders?
Thanks,
Kat

I don't have a dicut machine either - you can either cut out patterns with an Xacto knife or quite a few places sell precut designs.
For adhesive I use a glue runner. For heavier things like buttons etc and sometimes ribbon I use glue dots
You can also stitch items on youe page.
My advice is start simple and have fun - there's no right or wrong way. There's lots of great inspiration in the gallery and also lots of tutorials.

I'll give it a try with some answers
1) I've gotten to like adhesive runners. Glitter paper is very tricky to get something to adhere to the top. Usually it's the 4th or 5th thing I try that works.
2) sissors and cut them out yourselves. Or paper punches for some basic shapes.
3) adhesive runners are good. But if the ribbon is very transparent, you might want to do just a few stratigicly placed glue dots.
4) It looks that way because your pages are thick. You can either do thinner pages (but what fun is that?!) or put spacers in by a really thick page. Those little cardboard strips with the holes in them that come with most page refills are the spacers. You can always make some yourself out of thick white cardstock or the cardboard packaging that comes with the page refills.

here are some of my answers for you. hope they help.. you will get lots of ideas and somethings may work for you and somethings wont.
1. I use an ATG gun which basically is a tape dispenser gun (Looks like this
(sorry so big)
I basically use if for EVERYTHING! Ribbon, paper for tiny little diecuts or even some of the jewels i use mini glue dots. and for hard to stick stuff i either use modge podge or i use zipdry (u can find at most of these things right here at the acot store)
2. For Die Cuts you can print out patterns online. (google paper piecing)
3. for ribbon and fabric i usually use my atg
4. I have given up on the post bound albums for the same reasons that you are mentioning. Right now i have all my pages in plastic 12 x 12 boxes. until i either break down and buy some of the D- RIng Binders that everyone rants and raves about.
If you go
here you will find LOTS of great tutorials about all kinds of techniques. and check out the classes this weekend you dont have to worry about having the actual items for the class. The instructions will be posted in the resources section even after the crop.
good luck and hope you join us this weekend
