don't k now where the thread is but I place my LO by a large window to get as much natural light as possible. I put my camera on no flash stand directly above the LO and take the pic. Then I crop around it in PSE

yea def don't use flash.. try to use natural light.. I'm lucky enough to have a couple skylights.. you could also use a lamp that projects the light upward so there's no glare on the pictures

and then, like scrappininak said, stand over it to take the pic... I usually try to line up the bottom of the LO with the bottom of the view on the digital camera and I also try to stand directly over it looking straight down with no angle and you might want to NOT zoom, save the enlarging til the end and let the program you use do that for you

a white background can help with light problems too, I use a white tiled table, but a nice white bath towel would do the job

if it's a card LO you can usually just scan it since they are small enough, if you have a scanner

then in the end just use a program to crop around the edges (MS word, HP printer program, if nothing else Paint works ok though your images may be a bit pixilated) and you can enlarge it a bit if you need too
