Hanukkah Day 4 - Song Challenge
Welcome cherries for the fourth day of Hanukkah!

If you haven't visited first three days, I'd recommend that you read those pages first :-)

On Day 3 we learned why there are actually 5 candles lit on the fourth night. Last year I was lucky enough to celebrate the 4th day of Hanukkah with my 2 youngest (at that time!) DGDs. Emma is lighting the fourth candle on an electric menorah with her younger sister and my DIL. They have traditional candle menorahs as well, which the girls also light with adult assistance, but since I am trying to feature many different menorahs, I'm including the electric one in this posting.

Image

Since lighting the candles is a religious act and one that was given to us by God, we say 2 blessings each night. The first gives thanks to God for giving us the mitzvah or "good deed" of lighting the candles and the second gives thanks to God for the miracles of ancient times. In addition, on the first night only, we say a third blessing thanking God for bringing us to this day. Music is very important in Jewish life and traditionally, many Jewish prayers are actually sung. Even though none of us can carry a tune, we sing the blessings. As part of the celebration, there are other festive songs that may be sung as well - but usually the kids just want to get to the present part once the excitement of handling fire is over!

***Speaking of music, after noticing a lack of Hanukkah tunes, Adam Sandler (who is Jewish) decided to write a Hanukkah song about all the famous Jewish people you might not know about such as David Lee Roth, Goldie Hawn and The Three Stooges. If you've never heard it, it's quite funny (and informative!!!) You can find him performing it on Saturday Night Live here:The Dreidel Song. (Bonus fact: A SIGNIFICANT number of well known classic Christmas songs were written by Jewish songwriters and composers. A partial list: “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” by Mel Torme, “Let it Snow” by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by George Wyle and Eddie Pola, “Silver Bells” by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” and “A Holly, Jolly Christmas,” ALL by Johnny Marks and the ICONIC “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin.)***

But, I digress! Our 4th challenge is to use a song title for the title of your page. It does not have to be a holiday song, but it can be if you'd like. As I am putting no restrictions on the endless number of songs you can choose from, I will require that you use the title "as is".

For my example, here is my youngest DGD (little sister to the two pictured above!) and the song I chose is "Baby Face" a song from the 1920's that my mom used to sing to us.

Now the boring stuff for Hanukkah Day 4.
1) You must use a song title AS IS for the title of your page.
2) You may combine with one other monthly challenge that permits it, but you may NOT submit the same layout for 2 different Hanukkah challenges.
3) Only one submission, per person, per challenge.
4) Entries must be new single or double page layouts and may be digital or paper. Cards are NOT permitted for this challenge.
5) Entries for HANUKKAH DAY FOUR - SONG CHALLENGE must be posted to this thread by 1/31/25 at midnight.
6) MOST IMPORTANT: I hope that you learn something and that you HAVE FUN!

I love that you are sharing this again this year.  I totally missed the first 3 this week and need to go back and find them.

I love you LO and this song title challenge.  Trying to find some free time to scrap a bit.

Thank you so much for teaching us, Karyn!  I love your challenges, too!  That Adam Sandler song is hilarious, and he actually wrote a second one when he was the guest host for SNL, with a new bunch of famous Jewish people.  :)  I found them on Spotify:  https://open.spotify.com/track/6doSV1UQ ... 0330914a7d

When I was in Chorus (in elementary school), I remember a tune I still love but can't remember all the words...something like Oh Hanukkah oh Hanukkah, come light the menorah...something-something give you a treat...more word more words ...one for each night...something shed their sweet light. Sigh. Now the tune has turned into an earworm.

He is a character, isn't he? The first one was also written for/performed on SNL. Thanks for sharing!

You're right! There was that one too. Funny you remembered and I forgot, LOL. Anyhow to return the favor.....here's a little something just to help your earworm along.....Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah

I wanted to use the "Life is a Party" title card on this layout and luckily enough it is a song title too. It was sung by Stick Figure.

Re: Hanukkah Day 4 - Song Challenge
Another great challenge. I have had these on my desk to finish from our vacation and happened to find a song named "The Gatehouse" by Dale Cornelius.  I listened to it on YouTube and it is an instrumental song that i actually had to turn off because it was a little scary.
