August 2014 CHALLENGE - Scrapbooking 3
WOW!!! There were 17 entries to this Challenge.  So excited and so sad that not everyone could win because each layout was so amazing.  Thank you for doing this Challenge.  I hope you enjoyed the Challenge and that you had so much fun just scrappin it up!  Well, I threw the numbers in and the winner is:

#4 Scrapy1967

But, because I said you didn't have to use Shimelle and well, #4 was the Shimelle collection; and because there were sooo many entries, I did it again and the 2nd winner is:

#2 SaraM

There will be a $5 gift certificate for each of you.  Congratulations!!!

In the fall of 2010, I moved from a 4-bedroom house into an RV.  My unemployment had run out and I was in the middle of the horrific battle for SS Disability.  During that winter, sitting in my RV, I ran across a website about scrapbooking.  Turns out it was just a gossip/bitchfest and it wasn't long before I just bailed from the horridness and drama - I had quite enough of my own.  The one good thing I took away from that experience was a reference to Shimelle Laine's classes; and how, once you'd signed on, you had indefinite access to the materials as well as any updates.  So, I went Googling for this Shimelle - and that's when my life changed.  I will readily confess that I am a serious groupie - but for all the right reasons.  After reading the blog, taking some of the free classes, etc., I started putting into practice the techniques that Shimelle lived by.  It not only transformed my scrapping, it made me fall totally in love with this craft again - actually more than ever before.  In the 3 years since I started following Shimelle, I have created about 5 times as many layouts as I had completed in the 12-years prior.  My style has evolved and is still evolving into something I own, no longer just a 'follow these steps' type creativity.  Some things I have kept and some things I have found I definitely differ on; but, the most important five things that I have learned from her that will always be a part of my scrapbooking:
1.  The concept of layering and clustering
2.  The rules of thirds and threes.
3.  The importance of contrast
4.  That inking the edges of each element makes it stand apart while at the same time belonging to the other elements of a page.
5.  That scrapbooking is fun...stressfree...and there is never, ever a wrong way to do it.

So that being said, I wanted to celebrate that my scrappy hero has her own line. NOW LET'S BE CLEAR:  YOU DO NOT NEED TO OWN THE SHIMELLE COLLECTION TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS CHALLENGE!!! NOR DO YOU NEED TO BE A FAN OF SHIMELLE'S!!!

Your Challenge, should you accept, is to scrap 1-2 photos using 3 of the following colors:

Image

In addition, your layout should include 3 of the following in addition to at least 3 layered patterned papers:

Dimensional Stickers or stickers on pop-dots
Wood
Washi or Ribbon
Flair
Enamel Dots
Glitter
Embossing
Vellum or Transparency
Mist
Fabric (flowers fall here)
Chipboard or Foam

This Challenge is opened to all scrapbookers.  If you are a Project Life/Pocket Protector scrapper, one entire side of a protector counts as a layout with the exception that 2 patterned papers must be layered in one of the pockets.
One (1) entry per Cherry.  May be combined with other Challenges if allowed.  Challenge ends on September 5, 2014.  There is a Gallery for this Challenge.  A $5 Gift Card will be awarded to one participant. {Because I cannot get to my Scrap Stuff today, I can't provide an example...so sorry}

I love this! I do have a question? The colors in your example, can my 3 patterned papers have those colors, or do they need to be separate?

Your 3 patterned papers can have all 3 colors you choose:

OR
be one pattern with a predominance of each color:

I tried to use papers from various collections to show how this can work for everybody!  Just please state the 3 colors you've chosen.

Looks good!  I just want to verify what your colors are, as sometimes what shows up on the screen isn't the same for everyone.  What I"m seeing is Raspberry (e.g. bright pink), Orange, Peach, Mint (green), and Teal.  Let me know if I got any wrong - thanks!

I'm so sorry it took so long for me to get back to you - things are still rather hard around here with my dad and the house being done.  The colors are:
Raspberry, Orange, Blush, Mint, Teal.  Thanks Girl!

I love Shimelle, too, and feel that she is such a positive force in the scrapping world. I'm also so very excited about the fact that she has her own collection now! Go, Shimelle!

Great challenge! These are vibrant and fun colors! I hope I understand the rules enough to let this challenge simmer in my brain and get to play along!

Thanks for sharing and for the challenge!

Image I usually shy away from challenges with lots of steps because I always forget something...But those colors were just too lovely not to try! Thanks for the challenge! I chose the raspberry, melon or orangy color, and teal for my 3 colors. My three items were flair, wood, and vellum ( the bokah vellum under my title).

Here's my page for this fun challenge!  I ended up using one photo, and my three colors are orange, mint and teal.  I have 3 patterned papers layered, wood ('be yourself' word strip); ribbon (teal rickrack); mint enamel dots; fabric (the burlap star banner and the fabric title letters); and chipboard (title fabric letters are chipboard Thickers).

Re: August 2014 CHALLENGE - Scrapbooking 3
I used mostly red/rasberry, peachy pink, and teal green. My three extras are wood (veneer) embellies, washi tape, and 3D stickers (I used foam adhesive to give it all the stickers dimension).

Re: August 2014 CHALLENGE - Scrapbooking 3
Here's my entry!  As soon as I came across these pics of my dd, I knew I had to use your color scheme!

I used dark pink, light pink, orange, and aqua--all found in the "Chevron" patterned paper (back side is the pinwheel pattern) from My Mind's Eye--My Girl collection. The other patterned papers are the pink word print from Kaisercraft's Butterfly Kisses "Sprinkles" paper and the blue is from StampinUp!. My 3 elements are dimensional stickers (from American Crafts' Remarks "Feathers," washi--hearts and clouds, and enamel dots from Doodlebug Tangerine assortment.
