SEPTEMBER Technique Challenge - WINNER Announced!

In previous technique challenges I've seen how you all can get messy with distressing, inking, misting, splattering paint, etc. This month I want you to use something that kind of intimidates me............Masks or Stencils. If you absolutely have no masks or stencils you can cut out something on your own or sometimes embellishment packaging makes a nice stencil. I have some Fancy Pants Chipboard Banner packaging that could be used as a stencil. :) In these 2 examples I inked both of my stencils instead of misting them. I seem to have more control of the outcome that way. Some of my stencils have a flat edge and I didn't really want that on my page.

For the fine print....
This can be paper, digi, card, or a project. All work must be new. You may do this more than 1 time. You may combine this with one other Challenge that allows that. Please link your work here along with the "September Technique Challenge Folder" in the gallery. Deadline is September 30th. A random winner will be selected for a $5 ACOT gift card! :)

Digi girls: I know nothing about digital scrapping so I hope there is something you can use that is similiar and play along!

Hope you have FUN creating and possibly getting alittle messy! :winkb:

yep your examples are great, I haven't had much luck misting masks either, they just seem to move away and smudge the image... will definitely have to work on my technique, or copy you and ink them instead.
thanks for the ideas!

For digital scrapping there are elements called brushes that will give a layout the same look. I'm definitely going to try this challenge!

I love this challenge!! I have been making people at work laugh lately --I have really been into the mask/stencil idea and am seeing them everywhere! I used a metal thingy you roll your paint roller over to get excess paint off on one of my last layouts it was awesome! So I am really into this idea right now. Thanks for the challenge!

So, a mask is designed as something that you can spray over, then lift up, to reveal a place underneath that was untouched by the paint, correct? I don't have any store bought masks or anything, but I saw a tutorial once on a technique I think would work. I have a neat idea I think I can do for this one, please let me know if I'm on the right track here! THanks!

I cut stars out with my Cricut George Cartridge and used them as a mask with my Studio Calico mists.

here is mine in combo with the Pet challenge.

I used washi and masks in several steps to spray different colours. I painted the chevron mask, the border and the Play title; which is the negative from a chipboard sheet.
