OK...here's my shot at this one. I haven't written poetry since junior high school, and that was a LLOONNNGGGG time ago! I wasn't good at it then, and I'm not thinking I got any better, but this is it none-the-less. This one DEFINITELY was a challenge!
The poem reads;
Two men of the same family
One the father, one the son.
How would we ever know,
That two can live like one?
The father in the two shown here
Met an early demise.
But in the hearts of those he loved,
His words proved ever wise.
He taught his son to use his hands,
And how to be a man.
He shared his thoughts with his son,
Together they formed a plan.
He wanted his son to gently guide
His own sons as they came,
To realize that in life’s serious work,
There’s always time for a game.
The son became a father,
And shared the lessons he had learned.
And when he too died too soon,
For his wisdom I often yearned.
For that son became my father,
And guided my own life,
He taught me to trust myself
As the days sometimes brought strife.
My father and grandfather
No longer grace my side,
But I carry both men in my heart,
And I thank them for the ride.
For they walk each step along with me
As I raise my own offspring,
And share the things they taught to me,
Ever grateful for what each day brings.
