I really didn't need to read that. :waiting:I love Bono and U2...I agree with you that people get tired of donating and having the money go somewhere else. Makes me a little skeptical of Bono and the good work I thought he was doing. TFS.

That was my first thought when I read the article.

I think what makes this worse is the fact that he was shady about it. I was taught at a very young age to ask questions and read about charities before I commit to sending donations to them.

Being a cancer mom, I was APPALLED a few years ago, when the "Stand up to Cancer" debuted on TV. Now, while I think the SU2C does a great thing for adult cancers, they do NOTHING for childhood cancers, yet, they blast OUR childrens faces all over their site, and their show. The first year they came on TV, they donated less then .8% to Childhood Cancer. I think that anyone that had their heart strings pulled by the faces of those children, should be given their money back, lol. It was a misrepresentation of our cancer kids. I could go on and On and on...

Just remember, who and how much these charities donate to SHOULD be public record, if it isn't, email them, if you don't get an answer, that's shady, be careful.

I am always very cautious when giving to charities....so many seem to have shady sides to them. I know there alot of good ones out there...but..the few bad ones tend to ruin it for the good.
I try to give to things where i can physically see where the money is going.

I check them out on-line first- you can find out what percentage of your money actually goes to the cause, not administrative fees, the fees for the people doing the calling etc. Pathetic that people would take money in the name of a charity and use it for other causes.

I think a lot of charities are the same - a lot of their money goes to salaries not where it's needed. I always ask the percentage that goes directly to the cause

All charities have to have their tax returns available to the public. Most put them out on their websites. Go check them out and do the math before you donate. Less than half of one percent of the Humane Society of the United States money went to actualy hands on pet shelters across the nation. Most people think that HSUS is a national parent umbrella organization for all of the local shelters with Humane Society in their names. It isn't. Likewise with the Amercian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) - they are basically the New York City SPCA, not a national parent organization.
