Fiskar's Warning!

I wanted to tell you that I no longer use anything of Fiskar's. Have you ever noticed that they have a warning on their products? It says in very small print on the back, near the bottom that it contains material that has been known to cause cancer in the state of Californina. This is because only the state of California made them add the warning to their label!!!! I mean- for crying out loud- I have told the stores selling the products that mainly women and children scrapbook- what is the deal???? I threw out my paper trimmer and scissors from them.
So now, I am asking you to check out the packages for yourselves.

Everything causes cancer in California. If you read the labels to your Christmas lights, it also says that.

A lot of packaging has that warning on it. They are even on cars because of they contain oil, gas and other chemicals in the fluids that could probably cause cancer. It is required even if it contains a trace amount of a product. I'm sure you're safe using these products.

Well, none of my other trimmers or products have this warning. And being a survivor, I don't take any chances with me or my loved ones. I think if a company knows this, they should change the materials they use. And as consumers, we should tell them it is unacceptable.

Anything that is plastic is made from a patroleum by product....it can cause cancer. Which is pretty much everything in your house.

I work in a factory making bumpers for cars...I read up on it....

At the JCPenney's where I work, there is the same warning sign sitting on the rounder of handbags...apparently the plastic in the purses can cause cancer too!

As little as I've been scrapping lately, my chances of getting cancer from using my trimmer or my beloved border punches is slim to none :?

I'm sorry, I really don't mean to take it lightly, but I thought you were making fun of the warning. I think half the warnings on stuff are utterly ridiculous. I don't intend to stop using my Fiskars products, or anything else. As stated, everything carries a warning and it seems that just about everything can cause cancer. We have to live. But, truly, since you are a survivor, I don't blame you at all for not taking chances.

The air you breathe causes cancer. The keyboard you type on and the monitor you stare at ALL day long cause cancer. The water you drink causes cancer. The chemicals you wash your dishes with cause cancer. The chemicals that process your pictures cause cancer. The dyes in all the pretties you buy cause cancer.

I think that it is VERY irresponsible of you to call one company out by name. Just because they are one of the few that put the label on there, does not make them the bad guy. I can almost be 100% certain that whatever trimmer/scissors you decide to use can cause cancer.

Don't like it? Go live in a bubble.

Oh wait, they're made of plastic too.

I just brought the warning to your attention, is all. I said read it for yourself. I thought it the kind thing. It is not irresponsible to draw it to your attention. Knowledge is power. You are all adults here to be free to do what you like.

You know who doesn't care? Who can scoff? People who havent' had chemo coursing through their veins. If you want to buy and keep your products- it is your right to do so. I was just letting fellow scrappers know of this warning. Don't shoot the messenger and not everything in this world or life causes cancer. And you can do things to prevent new cases of cancers. All you have to do is try and educate yourself.

You know jack about me, so don't get on your cancer wagon and cry,"Poor Me" I did not scoff, I did not say that I didn't care.

I agree that it is important to educate yourself, therefor, I suggest you go do so SERIOUS research about what is in the Fiskars that causes cancer. While you are at it, spend LOTS of time checking out all the other supplies that you did keep.

Unless you grow and or raise 100% of your own food and also make your own clothes, you are surrounded by 1000s of carcinogens every hour of everyday.

As for shooting the messenger, YOU did that. To Fiskars.

Do you cook potaoes or starchy products at a high temperature? If so, you have supposedly exposed yourself to cancer causing agents. http://www.news-medical.net/news/2005/08/29/12757.aspx

The problem with many of these "studies" is that they are disputed and not necessarily conclusive. To single one product out when you neither know the history of California's labeling law Propostition 65 nor the sheer number of products that are on this list (many of which you probably unknowingly use every day) does seem reckless to me, but I can understand why you would be more paranoid on this subject. If you are truly concerned, however, I would urge you to really research things before going on a crusade.

What is the fight about? Making fun of my screen name??? Can't you have a debate without getting so personal and confrontational? I did not say poor me for having cancer as I am a very strong person who has survived more than you could ever imagine in your wildest nightmares. I also would not expect empathy, nor compassion from a person like you. I could tell how you came out of your gate that you wanted an argument. I don't have to do anything for your satisfaction. I was just giving my friends on this site some info that was stated on a product from our government. This is a very stupid argument that you have chosen to present. It has no logical basis. Think and say what you want. Read or don't read anything you want.

I just walked in the door from my lss with a brand new Fiskars trimmer and was horrified to read your post - There is NO warning on my product and while I understand you meant well with 2 very close family members with cancer putting a scare out there like that was not helpful. Which items have that warning so as I may be carefl and not use those.

that warning also prevents them from being sued if someone developes cancer. It says it can, not that it will. good luck to you and your family, my sister is terminal, but she is the first to say do not stop living, just use common sense.

Everything has warnings on it and its just a percaution. You shouldn't target just Fiskars at this or get upset with the particular stores, b/c they are just carrying the product, they are not the producers of it. I'm proud of Fiskars putting the warning on there, b/c that 1 in a million person could possibly, maybe get it, but doubtful.. but now Fiskars is not liable b/c they marked it. Yes we should all be careful about the products we buy, but heck there was a time when there was nothing wrong with lead paint.. now look at all the problems. So something we could be touching at this very moment, could be a culprit to cancer or who knows what in 10 years when someone finally decideds to find that It is the main reasoning behind the problem. So just don't freak out about it and think of all the money you just threw away. You could have taken it back and demanded a refund from Fiskars themselves by talking to the corporation about your concern over the product.
