Selling Breastmilk

You all know how addicted I am to Craigslist...well, the debate in the baby/kids for sale forum right now (people have been posting 'ads' to voice their opinions) is over this lady who wants to sell her excess breastmilk for $2 an ounce.  Apparently (and she said there's documentation) she used to donate it to Children's Hospital here, but since her baby is now 8months (you have to have a baby under 6months), she is looking to sell it.  Her latest post is that a woman who adopted a baby from Ethiopia is going to buy it.  Who knows if that's true or not. Anyway, the following posts were hilarious!  "You can't sell bodily fluids on Craigslist"  "Why not donate it?"   and then a flood of phony posts - you can only imagine.
Anyway, what do you think?  A nice gesture or gross?

Why would anyone buy it?!  You never know what disease the person might have.  At least if it comes from a hospital, they can test it.

I donated some of my frozen stash after it was determine that Emily wouldn't take a bottle.  I took it to the hospital I gave birth at- not sure who used it or what reasons.

I don't think I could sell it - seems wrong.  Of course, I sold my formula checks on ebay and many consider that wrong too.

As a mom that breast fed my dd's I can understand donations (although I personally would not use donated milk for my kids) but I feel selling it seems like greed.

 Not for me...

Donating to hospitals (where it can be tested, etc) is wonderful because they say it is needed, but selling it is just kinda...I don't know the word for what I think it is.

Wouldn't be much different than a wet nurse, but still.

I wouldn't sell , but they have tons of places out there that take breast milk doantions and the mom's have to be tested for all kinds of things to make sure their milk is safe...just FYI, alot of places use it for NICU babies becuase it is very rich in nutrients, more so than formula....

I agree...donating it to a hospital seems ok to me, but for somereason selling it on Craig's List seems just plain wrong.
