I have the same concerns you do, but I try not to let it get me down too much. I went through a phase a few years ago where I wouldn't watch the news or read a news paper because it just got me so very upset. I got to the point where I couldn't handle any bad news at all, even if it was something that wasn't personally affecting me. It still bothers me, but I try not to let it control my life. Sometimes we just have to take one day at a time and hope there are still enough good things in the world to out weigh the bad things. The way I see it, try to change things for the better, but if you can't, then pray about it and leave it in God's hands. Try not to let it get you too far down and ruin your health. {{HUGS}}

I worry consistently of what the future will hold for my girls. I feel like we are slowly - or not so slowly- killing our planet. All the tropical storms and the earthquakes, etc. freak me out.

Maybe that is crap--but you have got to wonder why he had to fly to Hawaii and have his birth certificate sealed! Why not just have full disclosure--heck, I am a teacher and I have to be fingerprinted background checked--all those documents examined.

Here is the guy with the key codes to the country's nuclear arms and he doesn't have to show us his certificate? Hmmm....

They did show is birth certificate. Hawaii locked it because soooo many people were calling and asking to see it that it just got out of hand. It has been released, plenty of people have seen it, let's just move on. Besides, his birth certificate has nothing to do with whether he is Muslim or not. (he's not)

Re: Does anyone feel like the world is coming to an end?
I didn't get a chance to read all the responses, but I just wanted to say that while it's understandable to be worried (because there are lots of things to worry about), I wouldn't listen to anything forwarded to me through email. People just love to spew forth all kinds of garbage and people forward it around and it spreads like wildfire. And most of the time, none of it is true. And I don't want to get into politics (because it makes my blood pressure go sky high), but it's ridiculous the way people are treating this president. People are paranoid and most of the hate seems to be race related, which to me is ridiculous in this day and age. People need to grow up, worry about themselves and mind their own business, and do something constructive in this world and quit wasting everyone's time with all this hate and drama.
Hmm, I think I'll get off my soapbox now...

I just don't know, sometimes things feel so hopeless. I get email after email about the president, how the Muslim religion is going to be our religion? (God, I hope not!). The healthcare crappola? The economy? The oil spill? Extreme weather? The mortgage industry?

Something just doesn't feel right to me and I don't know if it's me, or if I'm being a human barometer. What scares me most is not for me, or my dh. I'm scared for my son. What kind of crap is he going to have to deal with?

I'm REALLY scared about the Muslim thing though. I'm not one to be "controlled". Do you think these are "scare" tactics by people who do not like Obama? I voted for him but am wondering about my choice now. I also can't stand all the "freebies" for the people who don't work, don't want to work, ran their debts up so high, and than to have them forgiven, people who bought houses they couldn't afford etc..... all the while, I have lived in a house smaller than we can afford, driven older cars, kept a tight rein on the money, all in hopes of building a brighter retirement/future. Is it all for not?

I try to stay away from the politics of things.

As far as religion (I think someone else said this) religion is (mostly) the single most reason why the world is at war, even in this country, it's sad but true. I am not christian, muslim or jewish, but the good thing about this country is it's FREE, we can chose to be whatever we want to be. So, if I chose to worship naked under a full moon, I'm free to do that. Noone can force a religion on us. Muslims are not bad people, or a bad religion, it's the few that take it the extreme, like anything else. Any religion taken to the extreme has the likelihood to explode, it's just not healthy.

I agree about the economy, my husband is a teacher, I'm a SAHM with a small company. We lost our 2 year old to cancer last year, thankfully we had insurance but beyond that, we lived in the hospital for a year, we still haven't recovered financially from the expenses. We will not be able to sell our house because of where it is, so it would be better to just walk away and let the bank deal with it. My DH has impeccable credit, yet, none of the credit card companies will help by lowering his rates, the mortgage company won't help with lowering their rates. But the knotheads that dug their own holes are getting pulled out with ease?? It sucks.

Nj's governor is out for blood with all civil service workers, police, fire, emt, teachers. He has laid off so many teachers that my husbands first class next year will have 40 kids in it???? How does anyone expect them to learn like that?? I'm not worried about the world coming to an end, I know that something big is going to happen. Relax and enjoy your time on this rock!

you referred to people being bailed out who don't live within their means. Sometimes, we are forced into situations like bankruptcy because of things beyond our control. My husband and I are in the midst of a bankruptcy. We have struggled with this issue for over a year on what to do. We have no insurance. In January of 2007 I had an emergency back surgery (cost was over $20,000). in April of 2009 I had to have gallbladder surgery . . .again another huge hospital bill ($15,000). Throw into the mix that we own a house that has an apartment. We went for 4 months without rental income because we had to evict a tenant and they trashed the place, causing us not only lost income for the rent, but several thousand dollars for repair work. Plus we had some credit card debt, a hefty mortgage, but without the added medical bills we were making ends meet. I spend over a year trying to work with our creditors to no avail, so this last month we opted for filing bankruptcy. It was a very hard thing to do, as I always felt like you do, that you need to live within your means and pay your bills. However, we weren't able to do that... and in the past two years we had cut out many "luxuries" like reducing our tv to basic, reducing cell phone service, changing the types of food I buy at the grocery store, etc. My DH and I both have good jobs, but just weren't making it.
OMG Mindy Sue, I did NOT mean people in your situation!!!! I'm talking "large groups" or corporations. The government bailout of all those huge conglomerates, and than those companies go and pay their top execs MILLIONS of dollars for failing. SO WRONG! And the people that take advantage of the system, illegal aliens working in our country with no green card and not paying taxes, yet getting all the same benefits of people who pay their taxes, like ME!
LESLIE, I think Pezkat got that expanded answer you were looking for. It's the whole "unforgiving" and you have to earn it, kind of talk. Plus, I don't think they treat woman as equals, when CLEARLY, we are even BETTER than men to start with :winkb: , I wink, yet I tell the truth. :-D

I'm sorry I was so down yesterday. Everyone has their "things" that get to them and yesterday wasn't a great day for me (I'm over it, it's a new day!). I was mainly venting my insecurities. Trust me, it won't effect my health or (God forbid) give me WRINKLES!!! I count on the sun to give me my wrinkles, I don't want any ugly "worry wrinkles". :-D

I think everyone needs to do 1 thing, every day, to effect this world in a positive way. I'm going to volunteer more heavily now. Niceness is contagious. Oh, and I loved the story about the woman in New Orleans doing the clean up. I want to be her friend!

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

Sure, the world is scary right now - it's been getting scarier every year. Declining morals from one generation to the next, and yes .... I am seeing a lot of the current 20 yr old generation shucking responsibility to get a job and figure on welfare to take care of them; my parents are concerned about healthcare reform, all the earthquakes are unsettling, to say the least, I have no faith in social security - and therefore must save for retirement. I didnt' vote for Obama but God is in control of whom is appointed as leader - I don't have to like it, but realize certain things must come to pass for prophecy to unfold. I could dwell on all that is going on but choose not to.

Will this world end in 2012? No. I believe in the bible and the bible tells us that this world will become new again...and all who believe will dwell here and paradise will be restored. Heaven is not our final dwelling place.

Will things get worse? Most certainly...Revelation is very clear on what will come to pass and much already has. But should my family not save for the kids college education, plan for retirement or the future - nope! We live for the future because the future is what we have to look forward to. Worrying will not change a thing, but perhaps give more gray hairs.:bluewinkb: We will continue to raise our children and instill in them responsibility, respect and the importance of loving all people, and helping whenever possible. We can't change the world but we can change our own hearts, and live our lives with purpose in the day to day. I think it is so easy to worry and forget to pray...for our country, our leaders (like them or not), for the safety of our military and for everyone going through hard times that have no control over their circumstances. I have seen the power of prayer and firmly believe "worrying will make your head turn gray, instead, get on your knees, give it to God, and pray." We've been there with the job loss, the possibility of losing home, and I know that God is good.

Thank-You for that bible passage Rita!

Also on the Muslim religion. I think most Americans think of the extremist. From what I've read it really is a peaceful religion. Hell, what about that church that boycotts at our soldiers and Marines funerals. They also are extremist of their religion.

Oh, good. I would definitely agree with the fact about the big corporations and the illegal aliens that take advantage of our system. That just frosts by you know what.

It sure would be nice to have a health care system that worked. I don't think the health care reform bill is going to work. I think we need to have insurance that is affordable to all, and change the laws on suing doctors and others in the medical profession. I know that is part of what drives up the cost of medical care .... because of the high amounts of money doctors have to pay for professional liability coverage... just like attorneys... it's crazy. What we need is tort reform.

Yes, tort reform for FALSE/GROSSLY exagerated claims. I myself, was a victim of a TERRIBLE doctor, who made a TERRIBLE mistake at my sons birth, permanently injuring me and that is also why we only have 1 child, which was not our plan. We sued. Did we get very far? No. Tort reform was a HOT item in our state during the time of our suit. The doctor that messed me up was the head spokeperson for tort reform. She refused to settle because of tort reform, even when the other 2 parties IMMEDIATELY wanted to settle ( there were MANY mistakes made). So, I'm all about tort reform, but don't know how they are going to make it fair. Will a doctor be less causious because they don't have to carry med/mal insurance? YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! They want to rush everyone through (the childbirth in my case) and get to the next patient (ie-dollar). Her lack of care VERY nearly cost me my life (they had to tell my family that they may not be able to SAVE MY LIFE, 3 days after I gave birth!!). So, I have mixed emotions about the reform. Of course, the person who is barely injured and has no permanent effects is the one that gets million dollar settlements! Me, squat. :x

Re: Does anyone feel like the world is coming to an end?
I agree that people need to take responsibility and the govmt should not be bailing out every large company for running a crappy business. If banks decided to start giving out interest only loans and then allowed people to take out loans on their income despite their bills, the banks should be bankrupt. Any small business owner would not get bailed out by the government for running their business like that, they simply would have went out of business.

And the whole deal about obtaining a Obama's valid birth certificate isn't to prove whether he is muslim or not, it's to prove whether he is a 'Natural born citizen' or not to meet the criteria to be President of the United States.

I believe we need some sort of health care reform, but the reform bill that was passed will not help those people who currently do not have healthcare. If an employer was not offering healthcare to its employees, it will now be forced to offer it or pay a fine. It still is not affordable for employees to have, blue collar wages are not in line with the costs of living these days.

As long as we continue to spend money to bail everyone out, the middle class will continue to dwindle into the lower class, unemployment will continue to set record highs, costs of goods and services will never level out and inflation will hurt us all.

Never said we were treated equally, and we certainly aren't, but it's definitely a different world than 50 years ago! And the Bible also says that the husband should care for the wife and provide for her , and that two shall not be yoked unequally. I am a Christian, but we in modern days pick and choose what we follow out of the Bible. If we didn't, we would still be following all the rules in Leviticus! But that's for another thread.
Submitting to one's beloved spouse as head of household (who is in return supposed to love the wife as Christ loved- sacrificing His life for -the church) is a whole other matter than being required to wear certain types of clothing and not being allowed to vote, drive, or look men in the eye. Jesus actually treated women just fine, contrary to custom of the day (which is more similar to today's strict Muslim cultures).

(I also disagree with the "pick and choose," but yes, that's another thread.)

I really have trouble with blanket statements such as " ALL Muslims want to kill the infidel, ALL Muslims want to take over the world and subjugate women. ALL Christians believe in a loving God and ALL Muslims believe in a vengeful God" There are plenty of examples of Christians who DO believe in converting the entire country to their narrow, vengeful, hate-filled, subjugating beliefs:

Westboro Baptist Church (mentioned above. I find it interesting, though that these hate-mongers protested the funerals of gay men for YEARS with no backlash but as soon as they started protesting military funerals people were outraged) Here's a documentary that was aired on the BBC of just how loving their Christian God is:

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-most ... n-america/

Traditional Values Coalition (46,000 churches are members)

Catholic Apologetics International

Christian Identity

Chalcedon Foundation: this Christian church wishes to replace our democracy with a theocracy "We believe that the whole Word of God must be applied to all of life. It is not only our duty as individuals, families and churches to be Christian, but it is also the duty of the state, the school, the arts and sciences, law, economics, and every other sphere to be under Christ the King. Nothing is exempt from His dominion. We must live by His Word, not our own."

I am more scared of these groups operating in our own country than radical Musilim terrorists.

This sounds like a conversation we just had in my household tonight! :) My ds has a friend who is a muslim and we were talking about how different the Muslim religion is. I know nothing about the religion, but I was telling him that there are extremist in every religion like the the Westboro Baptist church is extreme in the Christian religion. Its not the religion itself its the whackos that give it a bad name. I am a Christian and I find the groups that you mentioned very offensive as I am sure that Muslims find the terrorist offensive as well. But there is a part of me, because of lack of knowledge that is a little apprehensive of Muslims in general. You hear so much negative of their beliefs in the media, its hard not to be negative as well.

Thank you! I don't see any official seal on this either.... Not that it really is a big deal to me. And to be honest--with every president there are always complaints and people unhappy! Back in the primaries--I had really wished Obama and Hillary had been in different parties! I thought it would be great to have an election where there was an African American and a woman running on the ballot.
