Re: Marriage = One Opinion?
No, no NO! Just because you are married doesn't mean either of you gives up on your own opinions. You know the saying, "agree to disagree." That's what marriage is all about. You can disagree, but in an agreeable way. We're all entitlted to our own opinions.

I think being able to agree to disagree is important, especially in a marraige....otherwise mine would be in deep trouble.

Nope! Everyone has their own opinion. And idea that two people are going to think the same way on every issue and decision just be they are married is ridiculous. BF and I disagree all the time... adds some spark to the relationship! :)

Re: Marriage = One Opinion?
That would be boring to both have the same opinion (although admittedly less stressful at time :) ). You are two separate people, with two different backgrounds. There is no way to have the same opinion on everything. But I do think it is important to have similar opinions on several things so you don't fight all the time.

I'd be in a world of hurt if dh and I had to share all beliefs. I think you need to be of one mind for certain things, but definitely not everything! One example of things you should be on the same belief would be discipline, having kids - stuff down those routes. Dh and I are not even of the same political party.

Just because two become one in marriage in a sense doesn't mean they lose themselves as individuals. I respect that both have their own opinions and I disagree with anyone that says she should change her opinion just because he is a public political figure. Ridiculous!

DH and I NEVER agree on ANYTHING! He and I know that, the kids know that, our friends know that. There is no secret... That being said my Hubby is a musician and when we are out and he is working we DO NOT disagree on ANYTHING. We will probably haveit out in the Tahoe on the way home but no matter what he says goes if we are at a gig. That's HIS job, HIS spotlight, HIS press. and whatever his views are, are what is importnat. I am "Mark's wife" at a gig, NOT Ann. That spotlight makes it a different world and if you go into the marriage knowing that that other workd exists you really should know how to play the game in that world too...

It just seems like her speaking out like this could be VERY to his career, not to mention at home, man that could be unpleasant.

I agree she should be supportive of his career but I don't believe she should stifle her opinion because it isn't the same as his. And with the direction of women's right and humans rights I think it would be wrong to say that she should not express her own opinion because he is a politician. I think it could, honestly, be helpful to his career (in the view of the younger generation) because it sets an example of being an individual and standing up for your own opinion and freedom of speech as an individual. I recognize that in the older generations that it may appear bad and almost disrespectful to the career of the spouse that is a politician. But, let's face it, our future is in the younger generation and we want them to be strong minded individuals and this very well may be what we need to change politics as we know it. (which has gone to hell in a hand basket no matter what side of the boat you row on)

:-D Just my 2.75 cents

No I don't think they have to have the same opinion, but because he is a public figure and a public servant, her opinion, or her public portrayal of that opinion, is a reflection on him. That would be the case on any issue that may affect public policy. It sends a mixed message, right or wrong.

Just because people are married (or in long term relationship) doesn't mean that one of them has to give up his/her brain!

I also hate the term - your other half. I'm not half of anything or anyone. I am a full person in my own right who is entitled to think independently.

I respect Bud's right to his opionion and he respects mine. We disagree on various things. HOwever, we will each discuss our views and there have been times when one of us (Usually BUd! LOL) will lchange our point of view based on what reasoning that other has shared.

Hubby is a political science and international affairs major! He is VERY opinionated. I am learning to have a voice for myself in the political arena, but I do know what I like and don't like! We are very much the same but VERY much different!!!

Allen and I have been married for 31 years and have different opinions on a lot of things. We discuus things and may come to see the other's perspective, but we still think for ourselves. Being in politics and in the public eye could be a different story, but I think everyone still has their right to their own opinion.
Take care of you,

If my husband and I were robots then yes we would have the same opinion on everything! But since we are human, and we are individuals we do have different views on alot of things. We also do agree on alot. But thats what makes us unique and what makes the world go around!

OCD is not an adjective.  It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized.  It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. 💙 I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son. 💙
