UPDATE - Thanks to all of you who prayed for my mom. Her surgery was successful. It took about 4 hours yesterday, and I was able to visit with her in the ICU about 3 hours after it was done. She was awake (kind-of) and so thankful that she made it through. I spent most of the day with her today in the ICU, and she has progressed amazingly quickly. She was able to sit in a chair beside her bed for a few hours. By this evening, they had removed three of her IVs (she still has one), and had decided to move her to a regular room. She was having dinner (real food!) when I left this evening. It's amazing - no, it's miraculous how quickly she has started to recover. I can only attribute it to God's work! Again, thank you all!
I haven't been around in a few weeks because I've been taking care of my mom. She has been really tired lately and after going to the doctor for a check-up, it was discovered that her aortic heart valve is only opening 1/4 of the amount that it should. Last Monday we went to see the cardiac surgeon, and he determined that her situation is critical, so she will be having open heart surgery this coming Monday morning at 7:30 pacific time. They will be replacing the valve. The scary thing is that I have watched her condition get progressively worse in the last five days. The doctor said that she is basically having heart failure because her heart is having to work so hard to pass blood through the nonfunctioning valve. If she doesn't have the surgery she will die.
Anyhow, I know she is scared. It's so strange to see her be so anxious and "unglued" to the point of uncontrollable crying - she is usually the strongest person I know.
Please pray for her (her name is Vivian). I know that she is afraid that she is going to die during the surgery. You can also pray that she will make it through and that the replacement will be successful. (I'm not too worried - the success rate is 97% according to the doctor.)
THANKS!
-Tracy

My prayers are with her...I'd love to send her a card...My mother recently had some health issues and a group of ladies from an msn group I belong to sent her cards...They really made her day to get cards from people praying for her that she didn't even know..The least I could do is return the love to someone I don't know.. I can send it to you if you'd prefer not to give me her addy.
Do you have a Bible? If so, here is a verse that is very comforting in times of distress and trial: Jeremiah 29: 11-13.
Modern medicine and surgery can do wonderful things. I am praying that God will be with the physicians/surgeons, and give your mom the peace she needs for a successful recovery.
