Ok so I am a 70's child and I dont know about you gals but my parents werent real orginal when they named me.  I graduated with 12 other Jennifers in my class.  I do go by Jenn a lot just cause I am get tired of Jennifer.  Dont get me wrong I love my name but I sometimes feel like its so common.  I did a search and guess what the most popular name for a girl was JENNIFER in the 70's followed by 1Jennifer2 Lisa3 Kimberly4 Michele ( My middle name except Michelle) another orginal choice lol5 Annwhen you named your kids how did you decide what you would name them?  I decided off of my name simply because I wanted them to have different names.  Low and behold as soon as I picked my oldest sons name DYLAN everyone and their brother started doing it GRRRRRRRR.   So now I have 3 kids with super popular names lol.I have DYLAN, NATHAN, MASON, AUSTIN,   all popular except for Nathan.

I named Brenden after Brenden Shanahan....sigh....  The names we loved..Mark, Chris, David, Paul are immediate family members so we weren't going to use them again...And others we loved didn't go with our last name.Kerri was named by.... I had three names picked, and we knew she was a girl, so we decided if she came out blonde, she was Kristin, if she was dark Kerri, and bald Laurie...  Kerri it was!!!  I love it too...it suits her.

Avery was a name I loved when Murphy Brown named her son that, since I was also going to be a single mom--it fit. My friend and I were at work one day talking about baby names and I said I liked Avery for a boy or girl, she came up with his middle name-Jordan, which I also liked for both. So, he was Avery Jordan before I knew his gender.

Nene I too loved Jordan but my ex hubby didnt so I didnt get to name Dylan, Jordan.  But it was at the top of my list.  Dylan was actually going to be Jacob Dylan but at the time " The Wallflowers" were a popular band and I didnt want people thinking I named him after Bob Dylans son lol, so I switched it around and got Dylan Jacob.   Oh yeah my kids all have two middle names too lol, first middle names are all J names and their second middle names are all grandfathers lol.  I know my poor kids lol.

I totally know what you mean... we named our son DRAKE and then moved and guess what, 2 more Drake's his age. I had never even heard the name before! Then we had Gabriel and two friends of mine named their boys Gabriel within a year after his birth- that actually really really really annoyed me.I don't think I will have to worry too much about Jasmine's name... I hope.

DH and I read through baby name books and wrote down the ones we both agreed on.  Then, we took turns each scratching off a name until we were left with 1 name.  Samantha, other close choices were Olivia, Jennifer, Hannah, Sarah.  Benjamin, we didn't really agree with many other names.  Christopher was our other choice for him. My parents picked most of our names from the bible.  Jackie, Lawrence Jr, Steven, Susan, David, Andrew, Peter, and Therese

I love traditional names, Elizabeth is after my mom (her middle name) who passed away in 2000 so she never got to meet Bean. Her middle name is Irene after her great grandma..and they just happen to share the same birthday.

When I was a teen I watched the movie "Highlander" and the main characters name was Connor McLeod. Loved the name Connor since. My dd's name is Carys which is a Welsh name I have liked for many years. There are actually very few names I do not like, there are very few dh does like. We agreed on those two though.

Well back in the day, it was common for Mexican famlies to name their kids after the grandparents or parents.  so our first was named after my mom who had passed away when i was 10, her name was Dolores1) Dolores- after my mom2) Carlos Jr.- after his daddy3) David- after my gynocologistnow I think I would have named them different

Northern Brat I am with you about the names after hockey placers.  If we were going to have a boy, I was going to name him Eric after Eric LIndros.  But since I had a girl, we just looked in the 10,000 name book and we both liked Quincie.  It is a different name and people do remember her.I am named after Sonny and Cher's daughter.

Christian - my oldest dd was named because I was baptised the year she was born and I was really feeling it!  (I didn't realize the name is a traditionally boys name!) Jonathan - my oldest ds was kinda named after my dad - Jon.Brendan - youngest ds - just loved the name - I think I  read the name in a book somewhere....Allison - youngest dd - this was the most difficult names for us to choose...we couldn't agree on a girls name for nothin'!  At the time DH as a teacher and had been for a while so every name I liked he related to a student!!!It's fun to hear how others choose their kids' names and why!

My first child was supposed to be my one and only.  So, regardless of gender, the baby was going to be named after my husband, Michael.  The baby turned out to be a girl, so . . . Michaela it was.My second was a complete and utter surprise.  He's not named after anyone or anything.  I just liked the name Adam.

DD name came from my mothers name who died when i was 6.  Her name was Rosa Linda (means beatuiful Rose) she didnt like her first name and always went by Linda. So I came up with Mia Rose Which means My Rose. If she had been a boy she would have been Vincent Robert.  (Vincent after my dad who died in Jan 04) Mia was born Nov 04 so he didnt even know I was prego.
