I think the contractor should get a share-the owners never would have known about it if it wasn't for him. Also, it's not the owners money either...it is "treasure."Put it another way...if you find a 1000 dollars at Disneyland, is the money yours or Walt Disney's? Pretty sure most would be saying, "It's mine."Jr

I think that it should go to the owners.  That said, I think that it would be very kind of the owners to give the contractor a very nice reward.

The money belongs to the home owner.  True enough that she wouldn't have found it at all if not for the contractor, BUT, he wouldn't have been there if he wasn't HIRED by her.  Also,  If I'm remembering correctly, she did offer him a percentage, but he later decided that wasn't enough.IMO - the contractor has just shot himself and his business in the proverbial foot!  He would have had people knocking down his door  to hire him for his services as a contractor for being honorable and trustworthy!!!!   Now......not so much.

IMO, the money belongs to the owner since it IS her house.  I agree with offering him a "finders fee", which she did.  Guy's getting greedy now...Good point Melissa!

I heard about this on the View and I think it's the owners. I would give him half for locating it though....that's just me.

Yep, belongs to the owner, although if I were the owner I'd offer a reward to the contractor for honesty.

I think it definitely belongs to the owner. A finder's fee would be nice, but as Melissa said, he never would have found it if her weren't in her house doing work for her in the first place.If he's greedy, he gets a lump of coal!
