Yes, another trip to the ER. Another allergic reaction. I didn't touch any oak or branches. No hives. No bites on my body. No itchiness.
I woke up yesterday morning fine. Had coffee, breakfast and did a load of laundry. At 11:45, My lip felt "funny". It was a little swollen, so I grabbed an ice pack. After 15 mins, a bit bigger. I took a benedryl 30 mins later, my entire bottom lip was swollen. Not as bad as it was 10 days ago. So DH took me to physicians premier next to our grocery store. Its actually closer to us than the ER at the hospital, but at 2am all by myself, I'm not thinking to go there. I told them what happen, along with what I had 10 days ago. They still don't know what caused this one. So I'm on prednisone 1x day, for 3 days. Benedryl every 6hrs, and pepcid 2x a day so I don't have heartburn probs from the steroid and benedryl combo. And because my 2nd allergic reaction occurred 10 days after 1st one, he suggested I talk to my primary Dr. I have an appt with her today, at 1:45pm. I can get blood work done, but if they want to do the scratch test, I'll have to be referred to a specialist...like an Allergist.
The swelling of my lip has gone down, its just my lips feel chapped, from all the stretching/swollenness on top of low humidity.
Since I know the combination of meds makes me jittery, I am having decaf this morning to see if I can keep the jitters to a minimum. Hopefully the other side effects are kept at bay tool.
I'll get back on here this afternoon, to let ya'll know how my appt goes.
Oh man, Brandy, that stinks. Especially since you don't know what caused it this time. I hope your Dr can figure it out! Take care of yourself!

Very scary Brandy.
My sister had a mystery allergic reaction last week to something she ate at lunch. She has never had food allergies before and ended up in the ER with very similar symptoms to what you are describing. She was really scared and it still really shaken up. She is going to try to see an allergist this week. She lives alone and is not near family which makes it more scary. I've been talking to her every day so I understand what you are going through.

Scary. I hope they get it figured out. Just a little story that "may" help.
My husband reacts the same way you do when he eats any sort of tree nut and a couple of fruits, mostly apple and cantaloupe. Along with the lip that is larger than life, his mouth gets very itchy. For a year, he went through every blood test, every protein test, and every scratch test. Every single one of them said he was NOT ALLERGIC TO ANY NUTS OF ANY KIND and the only fruit allergy was Kiwi. So why does he react then? The doctor explained something called Oral Allergy Syndrome. It has something to do with other allergies (for him being pollen, grass, oak, dust, etc.) being so amplified in the body that when something else enters the body at the same time, his immune system picks up any sort of similar protein and attacks. And, even though he is absolutely not allergic to nuts, all the tests come back at "0", we still have to carry an Epipen because Anaphalactic shock is STILL possible. We fought the insurance company for 2 years to get them to cover it -- they refused initially because the tests said "No Allergy". Anyway, I hope they figure out what's going on with you and quickly. Hang in there.

OCD is not an adjective. It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized. It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son.
Brandy,
I am so sorry you are going through this.I hope that you can find out something soon. You are in my prayers.

You poor thing! You certainly are reacting to something. Allergy testing is the place to start, though. Hope you’re feeling better and not having too many side effects from those darn drugs.

Hope you get an answer soon, Brandy. About 4 year ago I had something similar happen, but mine happened during the night. One whole side of my face and lip had swollen (I could barely open the eye on that side). My mom had an allergic reaction like that not that long before me; we still don't know what happened nor has it happened again
Hope your body deals okay with having to take so much medicine, too.

How scary! I hope that the dr can figure out what's causing the reaction! Definitely something going on - I would demand some allergy testing of some sort to see what all could be possible culprits.

So sorry you are going through this. Hope your doctors can figure out what is going on!

Oh no! That is sure strange - and scary! Glad you are going to your doc to see if they can find out why you are having the reactions.
Hi everyone! My name is Susan and I love to scrapbook!
So sorry your going though this. No fun when you don't know what is causing it. I hope they can get to the bottom of it today.
I had my tongue swell earlier this year and I was so scared of course my DH didn't think it was anything and said to go to bed it would be better in the morning. I was too scared to sleep. LOL! The next day it was still swollen but not as bad. I went to the doctor on call and he said it was a reaction to my blood pressure med so he took me off of it and told me to see my own doctor. I did and she said well you know Linda we will never know what caused it but if I needed to be on BP meds again they would put me on something else. So now I worry if I have to take anything even if its for pain not knowing for sure what it will do.

Yes, I have this situation too - actually me and now my son has started reacting like this in the past couple of years. If we cook the fruit etc, we can eat it but not raw. I had not heard that anaphalactic shock was possible with this so now I"m going to bring that up with my doctor! - ack !!!Laura wrote:Scary. I hope they get it figured out.
