To battle the 95+ degree heat with no air conditioning, we took the kids to a local lake today. We had so much fun! Playing in the water, cooking hot dogs on the grill. They also have a splash park and we had a blast! Then a sudden heavy rain squall hit and we got poured on. Did we leave? Heck no! We went back into the water! The rain passed quickly, the sun came back out, and we had a soggy picnic site. I had taken the kids there before, but this was Bob's first visit there. We'll be going back!

My favorite way to keep cool! Great pics of you all having a splash of a day! We get afternoon showers here and if it's not lightening, we stay and play too. You are already wet, so why not? It's usually the rivers here that we choose to cool off in but do have a lake up in Munson that is a favorite swimming hole...spring fed so it's cold. When my kids were home, we'd take a week and camp there. You never worried about lack of a/c cause you had shade trees and the water. Plug a fan in at night to put in the tent and we were fine. Gosh, I miss those days.

WOW! No A/C!?! Looks FUN! We had 97 yesterday and spent the day at the pool. It was so packed! Soooo thankful to get back in the A/C!

Heat wave at 95.....gee that's normal temps for us! We have had below normal temps this week both on coast and at ranch. Rain, too, at ranch with 3 3/4 inches since Sunday! Yay.....see me jumping up and down. Lynn reported a huge flush of new grass! Double YAY! We may have had an inch here at Houston area home....still happy!
I know with no AC it can be tough.....if you were at my Houston home with no AC. How houses are built today you would literally have water dripping from ceiling and walls. It starts to stink in about four days!

The heat is supposed to break and be around 80-82 or so on Sunday. West of Traverse City will actually put you a fair amount north of me, closer to Lake Michigan, and generally cooler up there. It's so interesting as to what a heat wave in different regions. We are in the low to mid 90's - way below normal for us this summer, and we call it a cool front. Right now it is only 91º - only had a high of 97º, and we have turned off our A/C. LOL
It does stink to not have A/C, though - is there any way you can put in a window unit? Several years ago when the kids were really little, we owned an old victorian home that did not have A/C, and we bought a window unit at a home improvement store and it really worked great for us.

We finally got a window unit running in the dining room. Our dining room connects with the living room, so we've shut off all the extra rooms and that feels better now. It needed a new cord, and DH fixed it this morning. I've actually been staying outside most of the time. At least outside there is a breeze! This house isn't quite Victorian, but it was built in the 1920's. I love its old features, but it has boiler/radiator heat and we can't even install central air since there is no ductwork. Most of the time it isn't bad, but this heat has just been a bit extreme for us without the air. It's just terribly humid! Looks like you all had fun! I couldn't imagine not having any AC. I'd be a grumpy, miserable person without it. lol! We've had our own heat wave here with temps in the 90's and a heat index of 100+ degrees.
There was a time when I was about 19 or so when I lived in Jersey in this old apartment that was a big old house converted into apartments. No AC there and that royally sucked. I worked a job where I had to get dressed up for work. And I remember not being able to get my hair to dry in the mornings because it was so hot and humid. Make up was a bear to try to put on too unless I kept a fan blowing on me to keep from sweating too much. I was young then though. I'm in my 40's now and there's no way I could do that for very long. lol!
