my son and his "girl" broke up. They have been together for 8 years! I was so sure they were going to make it. I guess it wasn't going so well, and they are both very stubborn - you probably know how this goes. Of course, they live in a house that he helped her buy and pay for. He is getting nothing. She's even selling the car he's been driving. He's been paying for most things because she's been in nursing school full time. My heart just aches for my boy!!!
Oh Sandy, I know just how you feel. Darnit.
My younger DS after much looking finally found the perfect young woman back in 2008. They dated quietly while she got her divorce, lived together for more than a year until they got married. Seemed so wonderful. He never looked so happy and the year they got married he turned 41 so he had dated quite a bit before finding the perfect one. Within 10 months, she wanted a trial separation and then they got divorced. He did tons of work on her house and yard, bought her an expensive (very very) engagement ring, let her brother (a bum) live for very little in his house and the guy trashed it, spend a lot of his savings to buy her nice things and take her on expensive trips. Sigh. It breaks a mother's heart cause she was a sweet girl and I liked her a lot. And he is not mad at her. He is sad.
Not much we can do but be supportive of our darling sons I guess.

I'm so sorry this has happened. All things happen for a reason that we cannot understand at the time. I will pray for him and you.

I am sorry, it is so hard to see our children hurting. And sounds as though she is not thinking of him at all thru this. The car, house, etc. 8 years is a very long time!

Oh Sandy I wish I was there to give you a (((((HUG)))))! So sorry this is happening.
I'm so sorry to hear!!!!! Its so hard to watch others go through ups and downs and a relationship and can't really help them out.
But on a side note, I'm completely disgusted with her that she is just taking everything! What right does she have.. even if they weren't married its still part of his property and she shouldn't get the gain of selling it to make money and leave him high and try. I'd take her to small claims court. Because he's losing everything!

I'm not sure if the US is the same, but in Canada, after living with someone for over a year, you are considered common-law. And once you're common-law, the government considers you practically married, and hence, they would each own half of everything. So he would get half the worth of the house, the car, everything really. So he could fight it. A lawyer would be able to let him know what he could do at least. Might be something he could look into at least.
And big hugs for you both! Such a hard situation. Me and Aj have been together for almost 8 years now, and life would be so different without him. It's hard to imagine.![Sad :(](./images/smilies/smile_sad_16.png)

Sandy, this is so sad! Your poor son! He needs to see a lawyer for sure. He must have some legal rights.
Bibi
Laws do vary from state to state, but he should see a lawyer.
so sorry to hear this. How terrible that he also has to deal with monetary loss as well as the relationship loss - hugs to your son and you
I am so sorry. It is so hard for a mom to watch their child be hurt so badly. ((Hugs)) to you.
