Silhouette Cameo Question
Okay ladies, I finally bit the bullet, or should I say my wonderful husband bit the bullet, and purchased me a Silhouette Cameo. My question to you that own one is what software are you using with it? I know there is a basic package that came with the machine, but now I want to upgrade and want to know, should I purchase the Silhouette Designer software, Sure Cuts a Lot, or Make the Cut? I want to use the machine to be able to make outlines of things like high school mascots, some high school alpha designs and other things. I have a son whose mascot is a bengal, my best friends son goes to school where the mascot is a warrior, and we have family in a school where the mascot is a cougar. Also as the mother to an Eagle Scout would love to be able to make some of the scout designs.

Do any of you have a preference?

Thanks to all of you for any help that you can give me.

Re: Silhouette Cameo Question
Hi Jeanne! I received one for Christmas and love it! I'm no expert, but will tell you what I know. I'm sure others will know more.

The Cameo will come with its own software, so no worry about that.

It sounds like you will want the capability to converting SVG files of Bengals and such. I understand that the designer edition that you can upgrade to/purchase is around $50 bucks but frequently goes on sale for about half off of that if you watch the message boards. It is my understanding that designer edition makes tracing and cutting and converting and all that very easy compared to the software the machine comes with.

I just have the regular software and it does all I need - I'm happy with the files I find in the Silhouette store. I believe there are tutorials on how to trace and cut images that you might search for on YouTube. I'm sure others will have better information on that part.

Hope that helps a bit!

Re: Silhouette Cameo Question
Thanks for your thoughts. I am hoping to get some information from the young man that I buy my vinyl from but I have not heard from him yet. When I find out I will be sure to let you know.

Thanks again, I certainly do appreciate it.

Re: Silhouette Cameo Question
I use the silhouette design and sure cuts a lot. If you have a michaels by you check the clearance section, they had the card for the design for half price and also the cards for the store credit for half price.
