Yes, we purchased two of them for our younger children, did you have a question about it?:bluewinkb:
Actually I was wondering if anyone wanted to be Nook friends for the lend me feature. Not all Nook books are lendable from the looks of it, but I have a couple so far. Unfortunately, we can only lend each book 1x. Boo.sadie_mae wrote:Yes, we purchased two of them for our younger children, did you have a question about it?:bluewinkb:
I got the Nook Color for Christmas and I absolutely LOVE it!

The only reason I didn't buy the Nook (got the Kindle) was in case Barnes and Nobles goes the way of other book companies - Waldenbooks, for example - I wanted to be able to still buy books for it.
As it was/is - I don't like the Kindle. I bought the Kindle Fire, kept it until I realized I really didn't like reading from it, and sent it back. Then I bought a Kindle $79 one - figuring maybe less bells and whistles. Nope, just do not enjoy those readers.
So sadly you can't fix "old" and I'm back to my regular books, which I love. Got some books for Christmas, and love them. And I can hold them, and file them on the bookshelf.
But enjoy!

Yep, as I watch my children (mid-twenties) devour books, I agree with Sharon you can't fix old. I can understand why they like the cheaper price via their iPads and Amazon. And unlike our generation they are driven by all things technology.
I can fully understand Sharon's concern about Barnes and Noble as I had Fox Business as my company yesterday scrapping. It's the economist in me. Barnes and Noble was able to secure needed financing to stay in business with expected restructuring of their business model. Also reported that their Nook sales were below expectations over he holidays. I frowned.
When Lynn decided to work at the ranch once she graduated, I told her about the little book store in Groesbeck. I told her they were able to stay open with the help of eBay. She finally found them actually open week before last amd came home with an armful of books, announcing it was her favorite new store. Two of the books she presented to me, both history books of my state. She just fell in love all of the 'old' books and how nice the gentleman who owns the store.

We got the eldest DD the Kindle Fire for Christmas and after hearing you can't customize it, I was a little bummed. I think if more people ignored the Kindle hype and bought a Nook, they'd be very happy with it. Very user friendly. THEN B&N would be doing better, eh?

The NOOK uses epub formatted books -- which is the current most common format that everyone uses *except* for Amazon -- so even if B&N went out of business, you could still get books from any retailer that sells epub books (and there are a lot of them.)
I don't care for the Kindle either and prefer to read with a Sony. However, there are a lot of Kindle-only freebies, so I do get a lot of use out of it! I think I'd like the Nook, and might have gone that way if they had been available when I bought my first e-ink reader. However, now I like my Sony too much to try another brand.

I've had my Nook for 2 years already and love it. Was disappointed to find out that you can only lend books once.
My son just got the Kindle for Christmas (hasn't read any books yet, playing games)
The one feature I loke about the Kindle vs The Nook is when you borrow books from the library, you don't have to connect the Nook to the computer. With The Kindle, you just have to get in a WiFi area and the book is there.

I personally think that as long as people are reading...who cares where they are reading it from, lol. I know so many people who stopped reading. It drives me crazy, how can you not read anymore. I'm 46 and I know people my age and their kids who never read...not even the newspaper. It makes me sad. So however you are getting your reading fix....rock on!! I love that all three of my kids read...some books and some from technology, but it makes me happy that they are using their brains.
I have a kindle and love it. I never thought I'd love reading electronically since I loved having the actual book in my hand reading. But I'm a very quick reader and the kindle makes it so much easier for long plane rides instead of carrying a bunch of books. I still do buy regular books from time to time, but have been using my kindle more and more.
Hi All
Not sure if you know, but Nook give free books every Friday. I get the updates from their Facebook page.
Here is the latest one:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/just-on ... 1459237896
In today’s Free Fridays selection—Kristan Higgins’ Just One of the Guys— journalist Chastity O'Neill returns to her hometown to start a new life and look for love. NOTE: For the free edition of this title, please use this link.
When Chastity first arrives back in town, she’s determined to shed her image (forged thanks to her four older brothers) as ‘just one of the guys.’ It’s time for her to find love, and the first step is to get the eligible local bachelors to see her as more than just the fifth O’Neill ‘brother.’
She quickly finds common ground with a handsome doctor, but when an old flame, Trevor, re-enters the picture, she can’t keep the long-buried feelings from resurfacing. Will Trevor finally fall for the ‘new’ Chastity or is she better off starting fresh with the dashing M.D.?
Make sure you downloand on Fridays, sometimes by Saturday it's no longer free.
Enjoy!!

Here is this week's Free Nook Friday Book and App. I love that they are giving free Apps now as well.
Today’s Free Fridays Book selection—Angel’s Ink by Jocelynn Drake—is a popular paranormal fantasy with a twist. Gage is a talented tattoo artist, but he’s not your typical ink jockey. His tattoos offer a little something extra—a small dollop of magic that can bring good lock, true love, or even a hex on an ex.
The mysterious Gage is a warlock who’s escaped the cruel Ivory Tower, where witches and warlocks rule with an iron fist, and is in hiding in Low Town. Here he plies his trade, hoping to fly under the radar of the vengeful rulers who have vowed to track him down. Low Town is a unique place—a town where elves, faeries, trolls, werewolves and vampires walk among humans, and Gage has an unusual roster of clients and friends.

Today’s Free Fridays Appis Hidden Object - Where Fairies Dwell, a whimsical puzzle game that’s great for all ages. The game’s objective is to find hidden objects among fantastical dreamscapes. While novice players and kids might want to play the casual mode, I love racing the ticking-clock in the challenge mode (but I admit I sometimes need to rely on hints when I get stumped). There’s also really nice, soothing background music that always helps draw me into the experience even more. As an added bonus, after you download the app you’ll continue to get free updates when they’re released!

I have always thought I wouldn't like the e-readers but DH bought a kindle fire as a surprise and I am reading my first book on it. I have downloaded several free books. I don't have the nook but I do enjoy the technology of have many different books at my fingertips on a trip. I think I will still read the old school way occasionally though because I love the feel of having a book in my hands.

DH and I both have Sony's as well as 2 of our adult daughters. We love that you can order from so many different sites and not just stuck with one. I also love reading regular books and I switch off and on reading one and then the other.
