Some of you may remember how nervous I was to meet my Mom's boyfriend Doug last month. We really liked him. He just seemed to fit with our family and Mom seemed sooo happy! It was great to see her smile again. We spent the weekend down at Mom's house and on Friday Mom seemed very "eager" for us to be there. Its a 5 hour driver to her house. As we pulled into the driveway we immediately had to leave again with Mom and Doug to go to the wine bar for a surprise. There were a group of people meeting us there. After everyone was there (I was thinking they were going to announce they were moving in together) Doug got down on one knee and proposed. Mom was expecting it because he had actually proposed a couple days before. But this time he had the ring. It was quite romantic and unexpected! We were all crying and it is so obvious they love each other very much. They met at this wine bar and thats why they wanted everyone there so they could announce that they were getting married. They said the wedding won't be for awhile but they wanted to be engaged. Here is a picture I took of him proposing. Don't they look happy!

That was one thing my Mom commented on to me privately over the weekend. She said that she felt Dad would like Doug and that Dad doesn't talk to her anymore. She felt like he approved and knew she was going to be ok. I know Dad would have been good friends with Doug had they ever met. I feel lucky too, I had a wonderful Dad and now this person will be a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks everyone! I will let you know when the wedding is!

This is so wonderful for your mom--and for her guy as well. I don't think most of us were made for "alone". They will be blessed, just to have someone to share the everyday things with. You did a great job on that photo too!
