ON MY LEGS!

Was outside doing yard work today and the mosquitoes were awful! I even went outside early afternoon so I could avoid the onslaught, but they were already out and I definitely was a great meal for a bunch of them. Boy am I going to itch like mad tomorrow. Sigh.

Hi Barb - Have you tried this? My parents use them in Kansas when they do their yard work and they seem to work. I just got back from Kansas yesterday and we were outside everyday putting up a fence, tending to the garden, flowers, etc and we didn't get bitten once.

Thanks. I heard of them and I really should have looked into getting them. It is usually pretty bad here but worse this year because of the mild winter we had. We haven't mixed up our garlic solution yet. That usually keeps them away from our yard, it's just been so hot that we haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks so much for the great idea! I need to clip those things all over me lol!!

Barb, At least all you get is dots.

When I get bit (like I did overnight Thursday to Friday), I get welts the size of a 50cent piece for each bite. Yep, not little dots, instead I get these huge welts. And I generally itch for several days. Still itching today in fact.

I usually use Neosporin to help sooth the itch. Except I couldn't find any at 3 am when I woke up after he attacked me. lol

Wow! Sometimes when I first get bit they are huge, but then they turn into dots. And itch like mad. What I find that helps the itch is Benadryl gel. I sure I will be using that tonight. They always seem to act up at bedtime!

Those dang bloodsuckin skeeters! Sorry they got you so bad. Hope you won't be too miserable tonight.

Too bad. Sorry you react to them like that. I know how miserable it makes you cause it does me the same. I get bit when no one else does. It just isn't fair!

I'm another that has horrible reactions to any kind of bite. I carry an after bite pen with me all the time. I've got like 6 of them and keep them everywhere. It honestly is the only thing I've found that works for me. My kids have bad reactions too, swelling, knots, redness and sometimes even blisters.

I feel your pain! I too get huge welts from the little devils! I use Benadryl cream and it does help. My empty tube is laying here to remind me I need more!!!

Oh - that stinks! Me, too. I get welts and they last for days. I don't know why mosquitoes like certain people more than others. DH, DS and I can be outside, and DS and I will get bitten terribly and DH won't get bitten at all.

Hope by now, the dots aren't as itchy.

With the t-storms that we had, I went around, dumped whatever had standing water in.

Oh they are really activating now. They have a way of really acting up as it gets closer to bedtime lol. I will be putting the Benadryl Gel on them tonight!

I know what you mean about the standing water. Dumped some yesterday. Problem here is we are on a wooded property and they just love it here. Time for us to mix up that garlic solution and get it out there!

I know what you mean about the standing water. Dumped some yesterday. Problem here is we are on a wooded property and they just love it here. Time for us to mix up that garlic solution and get it out there!

Mosquitoes don't like garlic. You will not find any mosquitoes flying around a field of garlic. What we get is concentrated liquid garlic called Mosquito Barrier. It is pure garlic, no chemicals. It is highly concentrated and the garlic juice is actually toxic to mosquitoes. You mix up a solution of it with vegetable oil and liquid soap and put it in a gallon of water in a sprayer. Then you spray your whole yard with it... bushes, trees, grass. When you do it your yard smells like an Italian restaurant lol, but it only lasts for a short while. After that humans don't really smell it, but the mosquitoes do. After a few days, you start to notice that there are no mosquitoes in your yard any more. It lasts thru rain because the vegetable oil helps it to stick to the grass and plants. Unless there is a torrential downpour, then you need to apply it again. It lasts about six weeks. You can tell when you need to do it again because you will start to see them coming back into your yard. We had our doubts when we first read about it but we were desperate for a solution to the mosquitoes here and so we gave it a shot. It really works. Season's when it's really bad we've done it even more concentrated. It is expensive but a gallon of it lasts us a few seasons. And it is well worth it. Oh Barb!!!! You haven't a clue about mosquitoes! You really need to come to the Houston area where both Laurie and I live!!! The rain we have had the last ten days has them out in force......and when I mean force we can see clouds of them moving across the Brazos river bottom right now!!! I know hard to believe but true. My son's BF has gone out each day to fog the mosquitoes resting on his house in a black mass each evening! You kind of get the idea of why we so love our AC here!

LOL, I still can not figure out why Clute (south of Houston) celebrates these pesky devils by naming a Festival after them. Nor do I understand why Sugarland (on the west side of Houston) named their brand new Minor League team Skeeters!

I do sympathize you on being attacked! Ouch!

There was a news-spot about how the weather is so bad and how it will increase the mosquitoe population. So beware. Buy some garlic. I would think that as much garlic I put on bread and in everything I cook, that the little creeps would not love to eat me, but they do!
