What are some of the reason you have called in sick to work when not really sick?

When my brother and SIL got married, they didn't have a lot of money, so on their honeymoon they came to Orlando to visit us. I was 19, and lived at home with my parents and younger brother who was still in high school.
One day they wanted to go to Disney World and my new SIL talked me into calling in sick and going with them. As much as I LOVE Disney, it was the WORST day of my life. Most of the time I felt like I was by myself. My dad said it was what I deserved for calling in sick. LOL! I think he was right!!

Hmmm - I haven't called in sick when I wasn't, but I have probably taken a few hours off here and there without giving an excuse. Would just have said it was a nasty headache. Usually just for some "mental health" time off.

The roads are sometimes way to icy here, I've also had to take my kids to the doctor.

I called in sick to have a day to myself and hit four scrapbook stores as part of a hop promotion in our area. Best sick day ever!

I've called in sick because it was raining or cold. I don't like getting out in the rain or cold. I've also called in sick just to enjoy a day with one of my kids.

I have only done that one - to go to the beach with my friend - she had the same boss - and we got caught when he called us both and could not reach either of us

One morning I am out of the shower and ready to get dressed. I open my underwear drawer and it is empty! Rather than wear dirty underwear or go commando, I called in sick. I said that I must of eaten something that didn't agree with me, had taken some imodium and would be in as soon as it was under control enough to make the hour long commute. And then I started a load of laundry......

I don't call out sick unless it's necessary but the last time I called out was for 3 feet of snow that had drifted acrossed my driveway and before that it was when my puppy was sick with parvo at the beginning of the year. Before this year the last time I called out was when my daughter broke her finger during gymnastic class.

That is the BEST excuse, Nunina!
I only did it once while in college. I stayed up all night and was too tired to go to work at one of my internships, so I called in sick.

I call in sick only when I am sick...if I need time off I use vacation, personal days or accumulated comp time (overtime). We are not allowed to use sick time for anything other than us being sick or an immediately family member being sick...it's in the personnel code. We have such great benefits I am not want to take advantage!

I called in sick a week in advance to go to a scrapbook retreat. At my job (school) we have sick days that we can use for dr appt ect...Well I really wanted to go to this retreat so I took a sick day and said I had a dr appt. The ladies I work with all knew where I was but the principal didn't.

I've called in sick and worked my part-time job. I was in overtime with the 2nd job, so I couldn't pass up more overtime (time and 1/2 per hour)and I still got paid for my sick day. It was a win-win for me.

Well, I think having terrible cramps counts as "sick"... but I know I've stayed home because it was cold and I didn't feel like going out... or I knew I was just going to be bored...
