Annoying phone calls

Okay--so we are a little behind the times..we just recently bought a house phone that has caller id. IT records the numbers of missed calls and such. WE have been getting SOOO Many calls lately---we don't pick up if we don't recognize the name or the number. So, I have been starting to google these numbers.

I have at least three that are connected to the Leukemia Society--that just come up--out of area. Then one that shows Leukemia Society on the id. WE had FOUR calls from them yesterday! NOw, I generally support this cause through race for a cure and friends that are running, in training for it, etc. But I am starting to think that these businesses/charities, that call constantly are going to lose my support. I haven't picked up on the calls but have seen people that try to call the number back and get no answer when it is picked up.

The latest number is something that shoes up Montreal PQ.... so I googled it--apparently it is some survey company that does surveys for many different businesses. This number called me once Wed. night at 8:30 and then three times yesterday!

WE are even on the do not call list! But I guess the list doesn't work in Canada or this type of thing doesn't count on the list... how annoying! If you tell people to remove you from their list, they have to, right?

Anyone else getting a bunch of phone calls as well?

I'm on a do not call list, but charities seem to get through. Most take you off the list immediately if told to.... but, of course you have to pick up once to tell them!

I know---but I was wondering like for the Leukemia Society---with tons of phone numbers--do I have to pick up for EACH one--or should one be enough.... LOL

We had problems like that as well. That's why we pay extra for "Call Reject". Enter the phone number and it's blocked from your line until you remove it. Not only does it keep survey companies and aggressive charity calls away, it repels in-laws as well. :greenwinkb:

I don't know if you phone company offers this service, but if it's really bothersome, you might want to check.

Charaties and non profits are excused from having to follow the DNC list.

The Leukemia Society has been driving us nuts for the last month. We willingly contribute to a lot of charities, but are getting pretty irritated with this one.

Well, I know it's not the same thing, but I'm getting a bunch of annoying phone calls today too.

DH had a minor surgery on his hand today. He was under anasthesia, and is now under the influence of Tylenol w/codeine. And still, his coworkers have called four times since we got home. REALLY? I mean, he's coming back to work tomorrow...this can't wait so that he can at least sleep off the drugs?

LOL!!! I should give you my number so you can call and listen to my message on the answering machine. It goes something like this....

"Hi, you've reached Eric & Kristianne Swanson. We screen our calls, so if we don't recognize your number we won't pick up. Please leave a message and if we're home, we'll answer. :) If we're not, we'll get back to you later. thanks :)"

Hey it could be worse! We get lots of odd calls too, but ours are in Korean! I can't even understand what they are trying to sell me!

We're not on a "big" phone system, just a local one. We don't get a lot of begging calls, but if they do come in, as soon as they say what they're calling for, I say, "We're not interested! Do not call back!!" in a loud, angry voice and hang up. It seems to work. If the phone system had the capacity for caller ID, we'd have it - in the meantime, I can just be nasty!! :-D

Answer the call. Tell the person on the other end that you are very interested but are in the middle of something that needs your immediate attention. Ask them for their home phone number so you can call them back around 6 pm tonight. When they say, no THEY don't want to be called at home or interrupted in the middle of their family dinner or something to that effect, let them have it with both barrels!!

We use to get those when we had a home phone too. The worst was the collection calls from the owners of the previous number. They wouldn't believe me that I had no idea who these people were!

I get collection calls for people with the same last name who's first name starts with the same letter as mine. I know they are getting it from a phone directory lookup. I think I am going to have to pay extra for an unlisted number.

I'm the only one that has ever had this phone number (area code was created in the 90's), so at least I don't get the previous number calls. I do however occasionally get calls for my number but the other area codes for Houston.

LOL! I like the idea of Kristianne's message. But, the calls we get (or used to get) were almost all autodialed or computer generated and the actual reps. come on the line long after the message has finished. So, not many of the will hear a message like that. I think.

I can be obnoxious and totally classless, too. I actually had a rep. from an insurance company report ME to a supervisor who then called and said that the rep. requested he be allowed to never have to work my case! Ha Ha Ha!

We are on the do not call list too, but apparently it doesn't apply to charities. We get a lot of calls from all sorts of foundations wanting donations and some of them are very pushy wanting a commentment and saying they will send me the bill. I've got to where I just tell them to bill me and then throw the bill in the trash if it's something I'm not sure about or just don't have the money to donate. What really gets my goat is when they bill me and then send me a second notice if I don't pay by a certain time. How crazy is that?? They want me to just hand them over the $$$ and even want it by a certain time of the month. It's not like I owe them anything. That's just rude and when they do that, they loose my donations forever. Also, I know there are a LOT of scams going on out there that are using names very simular to the names of the charities we all know well. Be very leary and always check out the BBB website before making any kind of $$$ donation.
