Unfortunately, though I tried to sleep in, I couldn't. After I got my phone call, I couldn't shut my brain off, thinking about our musical and how we are going to get through. Crazy weather! They have shut the The Ohio State University campus for only the 7th time in 30 years! Snow is still falling and the wind is blowing and drifting it.

I know you've written about the cancelled rehearsals and not getting scenery painted, but can't the school postpone the musical until a later date? ...or is it for a regional competition? Sorry about the stress!

You know what's so weird about this winter? I live in northern Manitoba...Canada...8 hours south of where the polar bears live...and it's been the best winter yet! Mild, not alot of snow...no extreme temps like I am used to, loving it. It's so hard for me to believe how awful it's been for my American friends! You guys have been hit hard, and almost every state hit hard! Crazy!
I'm not complaining for me though, but wish it would let up for you down there!

We can't postpone, because being a small school, we have fit the musical into a weekend between winter and spring sports, so our students are able to be in both. If we postpone, we will run into baseball, softball, track, and tennis games, and our students who are athletes will have problems attending rehearsal and/or performances. We already have an issue if basketball teams win in tournaments, but we only have 2 kids who play basketball in the musical. If we didn't allow athletes to be in the musical, we wouldn't have enough students to put on the show. Plus, we have a contract with the company who licenses/rents the scripts and music scores to return them by 2 days after our last scheduled performance on March 8. It is really rough and terribly frustrating!

Laura, I am so sorry how the weather has been affecting your musical. I am sure everyone will understand and it will probably be one of your most memorable plays ever.

We have a late start - but buses are only running limited routes. Don't know what that means exactly.

We are 2 hours late here and buses where possible. Our gravel road has drifts as high as our truck and they are all the way across the road in some spots. Kind of makes it hard to go anywhere. Our school was supposed to get out in May and we are well into June right now. That just messes everyone's summer schedules up to. IT has been a crazy winter so far!!
that's so stressful - hope you can pull it all together by the big day
8 or 9 new inches here since yesterday, school cancelled today and I believe today is the 5th "calamity" day allowed, meaning any more days cancelled due to weather will have to be made up in June or by taking some days from spring break.
School here in upstate NY. DS was planning on a snow day and was in a foul mood as he headed out the door. It has been lightly snowing all day but not accumulating to much.

Life is good, and even better when the SUN is shining!
I feel your pain....
Here in eastern KY we have had only 8 days of school since Christmas break. It has been awful. The worst is that end of the year testing is set for the last 2 weeks in April and every day we miss because of snow means one less day of instruction prior to that testing.
We have already altered the school calendar, giving up 3 days that we were scheduled to be off between now and testing, but if it snows much more, I don't know what we will do.

I hope it stops soon for you. I know all this snow is getting to everyone.
We had no school yesterday and it was supposed to be a make up day. It snowed off and on all day. The sun came out for a little while and melted a lot. But then disappeared again and continued to snow. They actually had a 1 hour delay today. And it started snowing again. I expected them to send students home early but they didn't.

Just got the call (we were on a two-hour delay) that we are closed again today! We will have to make this one up. I read a report on the local tv website that the county where my school is has 24 inches of snow on the ground. It's just too much! We have been to school 2 days in the last two weeks. We are supposed to have parent/teacher conferences tomorrow night and I don't know what I will tell parents, because we haven't been able to work on anything!

Laura I feel so bad for you with the whole musical thing. We were also on a 2 hour delay as of last night, but got a call this morning at 6:30 that they were closin' 'em. I think we have 1 more calamity day after today.

Thanks, Stacie. The worst part is we are doing "The Wizard of Oz" and everybody knows the show so well...I don't think we can get away with many mistakes. Unfortunately, our performers don't know it as well as they should...they took it kind of easy, thinking it wouldn't be hard to learn the lines, and now we are behind the eight ball. Plus, it is such a costume and prop-intensive show. We have to get all this stuff together! We should have a Saturday practice, but getting 50 kids there is going to be tough, especially since some don't drive.
