it seems like Eastern Ohio is getting hit again too - my sister said they don't have school again tomorrow and were to go back on Monday.

I feel for two families we are friends with in the Dakotas! I looked at their upcoming weather and I so feel for them. One family is into Lowline Cattle like we are. They leave tomorrow or Thursday for National Western Stock Show in Denver. I can't even imagine hauling cattle in the temps they will be hauling in. You can't completely close a trailer. Cold weather is worse then hot if you close a trailer up. Hot weather you close it up and then have AC and ammonia which is easier on the cattle but then they come out into hot weather and can get sick. Cold weather means you can't get the trailer warm and the heat the cattle give off plus the ammonia that builds up equates disaster for the cattle. They end up coming of the trailer sopping wet. Then pneumonia sets in. Horses will do the same thing. What has to be done is to somehow cut the wind chill from the moving trailer without closing it totally up.
I can't imagine what it takes for them to care for the cattle when it gets below -10 degrees. I'm worried sick we might get to single digits Friday morning. Our cattle don't have the furry coats of their northern brother and sisters. And the calf that has pink eye, I'm worried she doesn't have enough of a wind break to not aggravate her eye further. I'm worried about Buzzy and Cat. I introduced Cat to the house tonight and 45 minutes later he wanted out. We'll see if I can get him in for Wednesday night and Thursday night.

We are supposed to get it in Iowa again too. Only about 7" but 40 MPH winds and we already have well over 2 feet. It is going to be a mess with no place to put any more snow.

They will make it. People that have livestock in these climates are equipped for this type of thing. My dad used to have 1000 head at our home and we had bad winters all the time. It isn't a biggie.
