I was in the ER today. This time for me, not my DD.
Well, I woke up this morning and my hands were totally numb. I couldn't even grab my glasses. I couldn't feel a thing. I thought that I had slept on them wrong or something. I get ready for work and left. While driving my hands were getting tingly and I noticed that my hands are forearms were swollen! Usually my rings slide on and off but I couldn't even budge them! Then I started getting sweaty and hard to breathe. I think that hard to breathe was because I was scared and having an anxiety attack. I took my anxiety med and felt better. So, I get to work and leave within 5 minutes to head to the ER. My boss was not happy.
I went in for the swelling and numbness. My whole entire body has been sore. I can't even walk straight. I just thought that was my muscles still getting used to working this hard job. I started working on July 11th and I am STILL in a lot of pain and wake up stiff every morning. So, the Dr asked if I had been bitten by a tick recently. I had, I was in Express Care to get the tick removed last month. I was supossed to get tested for Lyme disease but never did. So, the did a test, but I won't get the results back for a few days. They dischaged me with a diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel, and Myalgias (muscle aching).

So, what's wrong with me? Do you think it's lyme disease or do I need to look for a different job thats easier on me? I cant go on like this. I hurt and ache all over! It's getting worse. My hands have never been swollen before so this worries me. I only make minimum wage so finding a new job will be easy. I can work at mcDonalds for the same amount of money with less work!

So, help! What do I do? What does it sound like I have? I am so worried!

I'm so glad you went to the doctor! That would have caused an anxiety attack for me, too! I hope the results of the tests come back soon. I'm sending you the strongest, bestest get well thoughts I can muster here... and if you like your job, stay. If not, go work at McD's or something that is easier on your body. (((hugs)))

With all the other symptoms, I doubt you have carpal tunnel. I get numbness in my hands, too, and bad aches in the joints. It is coming from a disk bulge at c4/c5 that is pinching on a nerve. I've had the carpal tunnel syndrome test done twice. That test is torture!!!! They stick needles in you and run a current through you!!!!! If you don't have it, it is excrutiating pain. I am surprised they weren't giving the detainees at Gitmo carpal tunnel syndrome tests!!!


What does help me is massages. Ibuprofen helps some, Tylenol not at all. Lyme disease does sound more likely with all the swelling. I hope they figure it out and get you better quick! (((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Were you ever tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis? I know you are very young but my dd has it. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 13, and after many years of medication it went into remission. She is 26 now and after she had the baby last year it came back with a vengence. She's back on meds again and it is still not in remission, but before the meds she couldn't even pull up her own pants or lift the baby. She gets stiff and her hands and fingers get swollen and she can't move too easily at all sometimes. My heart aches to see her like that. Hopefully the meds get it into remission again.

Could also be from the tick bite, so I'm glad you were tested for that.

I think you are right in that if you are only getting minimum wage then why bust your butt. And any boss that gets mad because an employee is leaving to go to the ER... um hello... the E is for emergency... duh!

It could be a nerve block, did they check your heart/ blood sugar/ stress test..With those symptoms only a complete exam could tell for sure...

They took a bunch of viles of blood. IDK what tests they ran, but she said everything looked normal. I have an appt with my primary doc Thursday so hopefully the lyme test will be back then. If it's negative idk what I will do. That will mean that I am in pain with swollen/numb hands with no reason or answers!

I've had family members who have contracted Lyme's, and your symptoms fit. They were right to test you, I think, and the good news is that it's completely treatable with antibiotics when you catch it this early. Hope you hear soon!!

I'm so glad you went to the doctor. Maybe when you feel better the stress won't seem so great. but if it is still bad, get a different job. nothing is worth messing with your health, especially minimum wage!

Omg that is so scary. I have no idea what it could be. I hope everything turns out to be nothing, or at least nothing major. P&Pts for you.

I have no experience with the symptoms that you describe, but I hope they figure it out ans help you feel better soon. {{{HUGS}}}

As for what is going on with your body follow what your doctor tells you as far as tests and treatment. I know it is hard not to worry but try not to. Positive thoughts are always easier on your body. I'm guilty of not following my own advice at times.

As for a job I happen to agree with the post about your boss getting upset about you leaving.....E is for emergency. If you don't like it where you are find another job easier on your body.

Maybe before your appt, you could go on web md and do some research so you can be prepared with lots of questions for the docs. Sometimes you have to make the docs pay attention because I know where we are, sometimes you get the feeling that your only being processed like a herd of cattle cause the clinics and drs. office are so backed up. More than likely it is something thats easily detected and fixed. Hugs I hope you find the answers and get better soon.
