Custom cabinetry

Remember that custom cabinet for Mother's Day?

DH had told me he was building me a wall mount cabinet for SBing supplies - and I shared a link to the plans the idea had come from... Well, it is not done, and in fact is being reworked. As he was doing it he found things that wouldn't really work - not enough depth for the punches I wanted to hand inside the doors, frame was built and could not be extended, etc.

SO now DH has drawn up revised plans in his CAD program - this time around it is a full floor to ceiling armoire. This morning we measured items that I want to go in it, lengthened bins, added a shallow shelf below the back pegboard wall, etc. He was going to put drawers in the bottom section but I told him I would rather have adjustable shelves to stack 2 high (no more) of the 12x12 art bin storage containers. I really love those as they offer clear view for contents - but right now I am stacking 4 high which is a pain when you want what is on the bottom.

Ah yes...this could become my Christmas gift - but it will be worth the wait. As I see it, once this is done it is going to eliminate the need for the very first tabletop shelving unit he made me. I am rather attached to how it allows me to organize papers and such, but the idea with the armoire is to eliminate the black metal open shelving unit we got second hand years ago - my tabletop unit sits on top, and there is no other place to put it. I am sure I can find a local scrapbooker to buy it on Craig's list. (LOL) I also told DH he might be able to sell his plans to another SBer who has a handy dandy woodworking husband or father. Do you think?

WTG Ann! I can do a little welding of copper pipes to make garden trellises, but when it comes to REAL woodworking, nada.... guess that's why my man is a keeper! My best shop project was a little lean to bookshelf of which I decopaged a mare and foal picture on it. 6th grade I believe.:-D :-D
