A woman was killed by lightning in our freak thunderstorms yesterday. Can you tell we don't know anything about where to be during a thunderstorm?

I just heard about that on the news...what a horrible freak accident!

That is sad, also on the news a twelve year old was hit by lighting yesterdaywhile playing ball and died:(

That's horrible! We had some major lighting warnings for a near by county two nights ago and the weather alert specifically tells you where NOT to go during a storm and safer alternatives. It's so sad that this woman was killed.

I know two different people that have both been struck twice (and lived). I have a horrific fear of lightning and living here in the south is not helping. Our thunderstorms are vicious.

I was also popped through my lappy (not bad, but enough to scare me).

Thunderstorms in Central Texas can be a very frightening experience as others can atest who live in Tornado Alley. This spring we had a very fast moving line come through that had a history of producing tornadoes. Power went out long 15 minutes before the storm actually hit. NOT A GOOD SIGN! It was dark so looking for signs of rotation in the super cell was impossible. I sat in the living room on noaa.gov watching the progress. All of a sudden I felt the roof lift and ears popped all at one time. Ugh oh, I might as well go for the ride right where I am. Roof stayed on. No sign the next morning of one moving through. Just straight line wind.

Lightning....I know where to get and in a hurry. I've almost been struck twice. The first was at my summer job in North Carolina in a blueberry field. You never saw six people run so fast to the barn. Second time was on my porch when we lived in East Texas. I was on the way to the ground when an arm of the main bolt came around the corner of the house and hit the room air conditioner. You have heard people feeling the hair stand up on the back of your neck. No...you can feel it from your feet to your head.

This is a must read. Strangest death I've seen from a lightning strike. Livestock losses from lightning happen all the time. I'm out after a storm checking on the cattle. When I worked for the Texas Prison System we checked cattle everyday. Usually both Lts. would head out with splitting the squad of inmates and head in opposite directions. But this morning I was the only Livestock Supervisor on the farm that day. This particular morning in one pasture we found three cattle dead under a tree. Two were about six feet from the trunk. The third was dead and standing up. Yes, if I had had a camera I so would of taken a picture. Camera's not allowed in the prison. She really was standing up leaning against the tree. My farm manager looked at me like I was nuts when I told him. He asked where they were and I told him. All of the ag supervisors had to see this one.

Don't be outside in a storm and the safest place is your car only if not a tornado warning!

We have 2-3 people killed in our area every year by lightening and I never know and will never understand why people don't take this seriously. A few years ago it was a young boy playing on an asphalt parking lot. Hello? You would think adults would learn at some point.

This is very sad and so unnecessary.

Oh one point I missed! On the first encounter with that hair raising feeling the summer pop up thunderstorm was about five or six miles away. All six of us felt it! I've since found out that a bolt can travel 5-10 miles to it's target. Get inside as soon as you hear thunder!!!

Wow--I have sat through 2 ballgames already and have seen lightening in the distance and they still kept playing. Men are such morons sometimes!!!

Wow-I thought I lived in the lightening capital of the US. This is scary and very sad indeed.
