As some of you know, my son married a woman who has a little 10 year old daughter.  That makes her my little step grand-daughter.  I don't have any other grandchildren, so this is all new to me.  I totally don't know what 10 year old girls like now days.  I wanted to make her up a little Easter basket with some goodies in it, but I'm just lost.  I thought about putting the Marley and Me movie and maybe some candy in the basket.  Then I found out Marley and Me has a sad ending, so I don't know if it would be the appropriate thing to give.  I need help with some cute ideas for the basket, so bring them on cherries.  I know I can count on you for help.

My neices always loved jewelry, pretend makeup, nailpolish, my little pony and littlest pet shop stuff... and maybe a Disney Movie? Or a gc to get a movie?  I sure hope this helps you a little.  Sorry I couldn't do more - I have 2 sons and no grandchildren yet.  Looking forward to seeing photos of your Easter celebration!

That's a hard age for me.  They're between being little girls and big girls, outgrowing toys but don't find clothes too exciting.  I take the easy way out and just make fruit baskets for my grandkids.  They all love them.

I have a 9 year old DD, and she loves anything Hannah Montana, High School Musical. They have accessories for that EVERYWHERE!! Maybe some jewelry, purse, stationary(my DD loves to write in journals, notebooks, stuff like like that), they have Hannah pens, pencils, maybe a cute Hannah Tshirt rolled up with a ribbon, that would look cute in a basket.

my stepdaughter is 10.  We do stuff like dvd shows/movies (Veggie Tales and the OLD disney classics).  Such as the Aristocats (she loves cats).  Candies, trinkets (like stamps and punches they have at Wal-Greens or the Dollar Tree).  Hope this helps.

YES!  The number of girls who request Hannah Montana and HSM books in the library is unbelievable!  And there are quite a large number of "puppies" running around the playground.

ALL girls love Hannah Montana...it seems like!  LOL  I have a 7 yr old niece.  She likes notebooks, stickers, markers, craft kits, stamps, jewelry, makeup (nail polish and lip gloss).  She's getting a couple of Nintendo DS games and some clothes too!

I would try and ask the mom....because my 10 year old is totally not into anything Hannah Montana, Littlest Pet Shop or things like that :?

Her basket will have books, an iTunes gift card, arts and crafts and a little candy.  Maybe some earrings, as she just got her ears pierced.

Yes she does.  In fact, she had her first game yesterday and their team won.  She also loves animals.  She wants to be a Vet someday.  That's why I originally thought of the Marley and Me movie until I found out it has a sad ending.

She dearly loves animals, so I'm going to keep this in mind.

My 10 year old niece loves American girl, and you can get the mini dolls very cheep, very cute, dressed like he big ones, but only about 4" tall. My daughter has one and loves it. That and the story maybe? Those two together wouldnt cost much more than a movie.

My 10 yr old dd loves goodies from the $1 spot at target.  I usually pick up flavored chap stick, hair clips, journals, sparkly pens.  You could even get her a small scrapbook and maybe she would like to scrap with you.

Definitely, a soft, cuddly stuffed animal- a bunny? lamb? She will always treasure the first basket from you and sleep with the animal each night.

You can't go wrong with "my little pet shop"  My little pony - jelly beans, cute pens, pencils she can use in school.  Little cute earrings from Claire's In the malls usually.  What kind of hair does she have?  Get her little hair clips, head bands - there really in this year.  Lip gloss, 10 year olds love lip gloss.  A journal - bubble gum - Lots of ideas here.  let me know what you come up with.  Take pics of the final basket.  Hope this helps.

The cherries always have such great ideas.  That's why I love to ask your opinions.  I'm kidda having another "Well Duh" moment.  She actually has done some scrapping with her mother.  I think Wallmart has some little scrappy kits that come in a box for kids.  It has the scrapbook and the different little cute embelishments that go with it.  Since she loves animals, I might could find one with a pet theme. I also like the idea of the $$ bins at Target.  There is usually all sorts of girly stuff there.  Of course the basket will have to have a little stuffed animal, like a rabbit, chick, or bunny.  All of your suggestions were just wonderful and I might have to get her one of everything.  LOL  After all, she is my first grandchild and Granny B (that's what she calls me) has to do a little spoiling.  The whole granny experience is new and exciting for me.

Sounds like you've got a fun basket going there Barb!

I always get my kids a swimsuit because we usually turn the solar on on the pool around Easter. My dd wants some self tanner to go with her swimsuit this year, LOL! She'll probably get it since she's twice as old as your new granddaughter!

Lip gloss, iTunes gift cards, beach towel, magazines...they have awesome preteen mags that are based around animals!
