Cricut help!
Okay...so my mom and I are very interested in the Cricut. At Target we saw a software package (like this one... http://www.acherryontop.com/company/cricut/86757). I know you need the machine, but do you need the cartridges if you have the software? It seems to me if you purchse the software it has everything on it and you just have to connect to the macine and your good to go...

Anything else anyone can tell me about the Cricut would be great!
Thanks girls!

I don't have the software but you do need the carts to use with it.  There is a program (I don't remember what it is called) but you can use any type of font on your computer.  You have to ask scrapgoo, she has it.

Nope you still need cartridges. This software is not essential and is used to increase some options with the cartridges.  You can scale, rotate "weld" the inages so they cut out all together (I love this for borders) among other things.

Sadly, you need the cartridges to use Design Studio.  The other software is called Sure Cuts Alot - you can search for it online.  From what I've read, it will cut based on fonts installed on your computer.

Good luck!

Just remember that fonts also include wingdings which are actual images.  So when you downlaod a wingding it is like having a smaller cartridge.  Plus there are so many sites/blogs that have free SVG files.  I have it. And I still buy cartridges.

I bought Design Studio a couple months ago and still haven't downloaded it or played with it, but I know you still need to buy cartridges.  I'll have to check out the Sure Cuts a Lot.

Re: Cricut help!
I read that someone was interested in buying a cricut. Well, HSN has a VERY VERY nice package deal for the Cricut Expression here's the link for it. I wish I could've waited to get mine cuz I would've bought this package.

the best thing is you have an option of making 4 payments instead of 1 lump sum.

Wow, that HSN deal is one heck of a deal.  That is what I paid for my Cricut Expression two years ago, and it only had two cartridges and a mat.

Unfortunately to actually cut from the Design Studio you do need the cartridges.  But, to desige using the Design Studio, you don't need the cartridges.  You can design all you want with any and all the Cricut cartridges.

I was so amazed at what the Cricut could do. I used the vinyl to mark my thread box. I had the Ellison BigShot before and the cutters like that fade into the background when it comes to the machine. i could go on and on and on about it. So, if you haven't bought one I highly recommend that you do. It's a wonderful wonderful machine to have.
