Does anyone order contact lenses on line?  I need to order some, but I'm thinking I could cut costs a little by ordering directly instead of going through my optometrist.

I don't wear contact lens but I know that a friend of mine does order hers online and she's never complained to me.

Where I work (as an optometrist-student) we sell lenses in the store and online. If you buy online you just have to make sure that you get a check up every 6 or 12 months or if you feel that there are anyproblems at all, and that you buy the same brand and kind as you usually use, and don´t wear them any longer than precibed by your optometrist. And again, go see your optometrist if you feel there are any kind of problems :winkb:

I've used shipmycontacts.com and they were great. They actually call your eye doctor for the prescription. On a side note, I told my eye dr that I was going to get my contacts elsewhere and he matched their price for me.

I've used 800-contacts for the last several years and they are terrific. If you order online, you usually get free shipping and I usually search for a discount code online before I place an order. (an extra $5.00 coupon available sometimes)

You have to have a valid prescription available through your eye doctors office. They verify the prescription and then send them out.

HTH!

I just got mine from Walmart.  They were half the price that my eye doctor was charging.

We just tried our first order with discountcontactlens.com last month.  So far so good -they had to verify our prescription, but then I ordered enough for free shipping.

It threw them off a bit, because I only wear one and hubby only wears one and I sent them in on the same order!! :-D
But it worked out great!!!

I do! It's very reliable and easy. It's a lot cheaper to order online. I go through www.visiondirect.com

I just ordered a year's supply of lenses from shipmycontacts.com for less than half of the price my optometrist gave me and their quote included a 10% discount.  Thanks for your help!

Funny you ask.... UPS man just dropped off our 1800contacts order yesterday.  BUT we just found out that they are $4 a box cheaper at Sam's club so we'll be ordering there next time.  Costco is another great place (but we don't live near one anymore) :(  This was our second time ordering from 1800contacts.com and everything went super smooth, no complaints!!!

There are a lot of places to get contacts.  I tried to wear them a few years ago, but could not get the hang of it.  Nuts!

I typicaly order my daughters contacts from Sams, but thought I could get them faster with 1800Contacts--had the Dr. verified quicker, they would have been faster than Sams, but they ended up coming in one day before Sams would have.  I did like having them delivered to the door--and it kept me out of Sams (which can be dangerous for me!!).  I paid about $4 more than Sams, and that was with a coupon code.  The online help chat at 1800Contacts was super helpful.  I will use them again, but won't procrastinate next time!!!!!

My contacts ended up being the same price at the Dr office as theonline service I checked. Also, I used to work at a pharmacy about 10 years ago and you could send your prescription in there. You might want to check into that as well.
