so a friend just called me and told me we are on two hour delay because of all the snow. So basically Cole goes to school tomorrow from 10:30 to 11:30. I told her I was just gonna keep Cole out and she said that would count as an absense for him. Seriously, if he misses an hour it counts as the whole day. UGH
I can see where it would be okay for the kids that go all day, but we have to get all dressed and ready to go for a freakin hour. UGH
okay vent over. LOL

that doesn't make a lot of sense. I agree with you, you should be able to keep him home.

That stinks! Seems like they would have to keep them longer to be considered a full school day.

I second the "doing something after" the 1 hour of school - maybe you can talk with some other moms at the school
or at a nearby coffee shop during the hour of school. Then have fun afterwards!!! Make the most of it!
That's easy for me to say - no snow here in Texas - and it's gonna be in the low 60's.

Yeah...schools get paid according to their attendance. If a kid isn't there, it counts against the school. At least that's how we roll here in the Golden State.

Wow, that's pretty crazy he would only be there for an hour! I'm sure that his teacher(s) would understand. Most likely they'll have a lot of absences...I know that happens at my school when we have delays!

Weird that they'd even spend the money to run busses for one stinkin' hour- just call it a snow day!

maybe you'll get some more snow and they will just cancel... has he missed any school yet? or does he have perfect attendance?

I am assuming he is in kindergarten? In our school district, when there is a delay, they cancel kindergarten for the day. kind of silly not too. I wish we had snow.....

That's crazy they require that! I mean to pay for the buses and staff to come in for an hour?? And to make the parents treak out in the snow that has delayed the school already. Doesn't seem very safe or smart to me. What's the worst that can happen if he doesn't show up. I mean is he only allowed so many absente times at his age??

That doesn't seem right. Are you sure there isn't some policy that says if the school is delayed those going half days are not cancelled? That's they way it is here for the one school that does half day kindergarten. Our preschool is cancelled on delay days, but they aren't tied with the local school system.

Jamie has it right. It is the bottom line that counts with school. His teacher wouldnt say much about his missing that hour but the attendance office would since they wouldnt get state funds for his being absent. Bummer though.

That seems silly to make them go for an hour. How productive can that hour really be?
I don't blame you for wanting to keep him home.

That does sound silly. Around here when school gets delayed, they usually cancel all the morning kindergarten and preschool classes.
