Let's see if anyone has any advice on this one becasue i am fresh out! I don't feel like i have any rights at all :(

I have lived in my home for 30 years, we have had neighbors next door and renter's in this same house and all has been good till this last year. New family bought the house and dh there smoked but wife didn't, she was going to have a baby! well as soon as the baby came she is out smoking too!!!! They don't smoke IN their home (they have 4 kids now) nor do i see them smoke in the car (I am so happy for the kids ) BUT they smoke in their driveway and i can smell it in my front yard not to mention my two rooms next to the driveway...so i can't have my windows open anymore which really sucks! Then they move to their back deck and it's not 15 feet from my bedroom!!!!! Again no open windows!!! I am highly allergic to smoke and my doctor said to stay completely away from it as it doesn't help with my bronchitis problems. So since they are on their own property i feel i have to just live  with it and just feel it's totally unfair...other than that i  like them...any ideas??? i feel i am just out of luck and i don't want to move :(  thanks for letting me vent .

That really sucks! I'm not sure there is much you can do either.
The only thing I could think of was making a point of walking over and closing your window everytime you see them go out there to smoke? I don't know if maybe they'd get the hint on their own. hmm...

Have you tried talking to them about it?
Maybe an air purifier would be good for you...esp. in your bedroom.

We have the same problem...but I'm not allergic.  well, I am allergic to death! :winkb:  Same thing when I'm in the car.  They have their arm out the window so the smoke isn't in there car, but I've got to shut my windows and put the air on re-circ!

Now don't get me wrong, I love all people!  My parents smoked for a long time, but I really don't want to smell (and smell like) that f I don't even do it.

I didn't care as much before I had kids... ;)

yes, i did talk to them about it as we were standing outside talking and they try to stay down wind of me so i don't smell it and don't stand close which i am thankful for but as far as day to day i just close my window or take the fan out of the window on the hotter days. The other thing that's no ones fault is the wind always blows to the east and i am east of them!!!
I do have one air cleaner in the house but i guess i need to get another for the back rooms of the house too.

thanks

That would totally suck! Unfortunately that is not "their problem" though, at least in my opinion. They could certainly be caring people and go out of their way to not smoke near the home, but if it's on their property that they are paying thousands a month to live on, then I feel they can do whatever the heck they want to do. That's the downside of neighbors. :( I know what you mean though, I am highly allergic to smoke too and that would suck if my next door neighbors were smokers. But when it boils down to it, it's my problem and not theirs, kwim? That's just how I look at things though.

Ugh!  That is not a pretty situation.  I guess I would try to talk to them again.  Hope it works out for you.

Oh, MAN.......that totally sucks and I feel for you.  I cannot STAND that smell and would freak if it was coming into my open windows!
How gross.
What about buying fans to put in the windows and have them blow outward?
