My poor kitty AGAIN! (WARNING: gross pictures in this thread

My kitty JT got bit by something again. He never complained and I never saw a scratch on him. Tues night I was petting him and noticed this golf ball size lump. We got him to the vet yesterday and he had to have it cut and drained. Poor baby. This happened to him last October also. I have tried so hard to keep him inside, but he was a rescue kitty and he won't have it! He hides behind doors and runs out and he is very hard to catch.

Here's the gross picture part from this morning:

Now the battle begins to keep him indoors for 2 wks until the stitches are removed. He has learned a whole new "kitty language" (cussing, kitty style) this time. He's never been a hisser or a growler and he is hissing and growling up a storm!!!!
My poor baby.

I'm not a pet lover (allergies), but that poor kitty.  I'm glad you were able to catch him and get him to the vet on time.  That looks awfully sore and painful.  Give the poor thing some ice cream (if possible) for enduring such pain.

Oh no! Poor poor kitty! I hope it heals up nicely and it doesn't happen again!
Did the vet have an idea of what bit him? That seems like a pretty large bite!

Maybe you can give him some "kitty valium" to calm him down.  That could be either a prescription medication or something herbal like Rescue Remedy is for dogs.

Aaaah...poor guy.  Especially not being able to go outside and having to "cuss".  ;)

Give him plenty of kitty treats and maybe he'll begin to enjoy the indoors??

I think it's kinda cool...the wound.  Not the poor kitty's suffering.  Big hugs for  your little prowler!

We had a "tomcat" when I was young.  He'd come home with big chunks of flesh missing...and off to the vet we'd go.  He never got a drain though!

Amy: I SAID gross pictures!!! Sowwy about your breakfast........

SW: that's his stitches. I can't even see ANY entry wound where he was bitten. Just like last time, they said the entry wound was already healed, the infection took a while to show itself.

Ann: you know, that's a good idea. I'm calling the vet about that. See if I can't get a kitty pot scrip'! :winkb:

opps, look likes I've had this one open (I was on the phone and with a customer for a while), so I'll go back and see what else everyone has to say.

Ouch! That looks like it was a big abscess.  More than likely he got into it with another kitty.

I have 100% indoor kitties but a few years ago, I noticed an abscess on one of my boys. He and the other boy had obviously gotten into a tussle and he got some teeth into him.

I agree with Ann about possibly some meds for him to keep him calm, but pilling a cat isn't the easiest thing to do and that might rile him up even more.

Good luck with him, and perhaps if you have a spare bathroom or a large enough crate to keep him in, along with a disposable litter box and food and water, that might be a good thing.

What we used for disposable litter boxes when I worked at the vet's were very much like plain gift boxes, like the kind you get at dept stores, for clothing items. Just put enough litter in it for the kitty to use a time or two and then toss it. It's smaller than a real litter box and fits into a crate well.

Or you could use an aluminum foil baking pan, like the ones you get at the grocery store in the baking aisle.

Just a few ideas for you......

Good point about the difficulty in pilling a cat.  Many of the herbal/homeopathic calming formulas are liquids.
