 Nice topic eh?

 I have a lump behind my ear. I had dh look at it and he says it is a boil and I need to pop it.

 If you have ever had one did you pop it or will it just go away on its own??

 OMGosh - I used to get these ALL of the time when I was younger - not so much any more. They were horrible and hurt like, well, hell! Really.

I was always told NOT to prick them because the infection would spread and cause more. I have no idea if that is true or not because I'm from the south and wive's tails are rampant. I just never did burst them.

There is a boil cream that you can get at most pharmacies. It is horrible stuff that looks like black tar but immediately takes away the pain and gets rid of them.

It is right behind my earlobe (in the crevice) where no hair grows (at least I hope not!). I thought it might be a large pimple but it feels different and dh says it doesn't look like a pimple. I'll check the pharmacy tomorrow for the tar like cream.

The cream actually has "boil" in the name so it's not hard to find. I'm sorry you have this. I remember how much they hurt.

The dermatologist would numb the area, make an incision and remove the cyst sac entirely otherwise it would return.

     Trust me... it was one of the least liked procedures to assist with.. And it wasn't the actual sac that made you barf.  It was the smell.  Can't have a weak gag reflex!

 yeah I have had a boil or two, they are painful, but they always go away in a day or two.   DON'T pop it!!!!

 DO NOT POP IT! when i worked for a general doc a few years ago we had a girl come in that had one on her forehead when she tried to pop it it popped underneath her skin and theinfection ran down aroun her eyes and nose it was horriable

Could you use a warm compress so it pops on it's own? Then use neosporin.

 Poor you My doctor always (yes always ) cut´s mine. At one time I didn´t get to the doctor before it was the size of an egg, and I had to stay home for a week, untill the infection was gone, and I could walk again.

 DO NOT POP!
Go to the dr and have it lanced properly...and the black tar stuff BOIL EASE is a waste and it stinks and stains
