As some of you know, I've been taking online classes in an attempt to get my degree in paralegal studies. Well, the last year or so has been really tough, due to excessive travel, and then my unexpected surgery in January and the long recovery. Well, basically I've failed several classes, but had been told by my academic advisor not to worry, I can retake them and change the failing grade to whatever grade I pass with. So, I wasn't too concerned. I still had an acceptable GPA (2.75). So, in June I was surprised to find out that I was "dismissed" from the university I was attending due to too many failed classes. After numerous phone calls and basically being told that it was too bad that my advisor mis-informed me, but the policies are the policies. . . blah, blah, blah.
Well, the past month I'd pretty much decided that maybe now wasn't the time for me to do school. And I would just wait a few years until Bethany was in college and maybe I'd have more time, health would be better, etc. Last week I received an email from another online school that offered the program I am pursuing. So out of curiousity I decided to investigate. Plus, after talking with friends I realized that I'm so close to a degree it's a shame to put it off now. And since my back and all is finally getting better it would really be a shame to quit now. Also, I recently saw an ad for a job in our local paper, for a City job, that I had applied for about 8 years ago, and was one of the two last candidates, and the other gal got selected. Well, they've changed the criteria for the job and now require a bachelor's degree so I couldn't apply for it.
So, Tuesday I finished all the paperwork and everything for this new school and I'm back in classes. I'm only taking one class this term until the financial aid gets straightened out, so for the summer that's good, only one class.
Glad to hear things are working in your favor!! That really sucks about that advisor telling you that though.

Woohoo! Way to go and good for you Mindy! While deployed with the Fleet Hospital back in 2003, I tried to balance college online with working 10-12 hour days and missing my son back here in the states. Of course, something had to give and it turned out to be my grades. I failed two courses but was also told by my advisor I could retake the classes when I returned and they would accept the better grade. Well, I got back, became pregnant and retired. The courses jumped from the Navy paying 75% to me paying 100% (at $900 a pop). I bit the bullet after Z was about a year old, retook the two and I'm thankful I did... now, I'm working on my Masters in Public Health! Good luck and keep going :)
Congrats on finding something that will work! Good Luck, you won't regret it!!!
so glad everything is working out and you can finish school! dumb advisor shouldn't be talking to monkeys!

Congrats Mindy! I hope it all works out and you get that degree! It's really fantastic!
I feel your pain of the online class. I just finished English 1221-30 Critical Reading and Writing. Thought it was going to kill me to be honest. My final research paper brought me an A at 92%. I was so happy about it that I teared up. Lame, huh? Mindy I wish you the best of luck!
