Probably sound totally dumb to you & yes I agree I am when it comes to cooking. So, I've never made hamburger patties before but going camping tomorrow & I'm supposed to bring the hamburgers/hot dogs among other things. Rather than buy pre-made patties, I want to buy the ground beef. But how many burgers per pound of meat? Also, what do I get to add to it without getting too fancy? Thanks.
My dh adds bbq sauce & squishes it up with the meat & it's really good! He also adds chopped up onions sometimes and I like that, too.
Here is my suggestion. I think you are smart not buying premade burger, it is usually really high in fat. I buy lean ground beef especially if you're camping and cannot keep it really cold, maybe around 10 percent fat content and I usually get about 3 nice big burgers per pound. Just separate the meat and squash it around until is makes nice thick round patties. The only thing I add to the meat is maybe some Lawry's Seasoning on top the patties. Now if you are asking about condiments for the burgers, the sky is the limit. I don't think there is anything you can't put on a burger.

I'm not sure I'd want marshmallow cream on my burgers...just sayin'

I'd say average of 4 patties per pound. If there will be a lot of men, then 3 patties per pound. I usually add one egg per pound to help keep them together.

lol good one Em. I usually just add salt, pepper and Worchester sauce.
Ewww........marshmallows, don't like them in any form or shape.
I was asking about what to add to the meat before grilling. I have the condiment down for after. Thanks.
Someone mentioned Lipton's dry onion soup mix to me & I do have that stuff to use when I make beef in a crockpot.

My mother would make our burgers with lean ground beef and bread crumbs mixed with an egg! :) It fattened 'em up and they tasted delicious!!
Okay, you got me. I will admit that marshmallow cream wouldn't be very good on a hambuger. I guess I should have added 'within reason' depending on your tastes.
Depending on how fancy you want, I put A1 and onion. If I want to spruce it up, I add bacon and cheddar cheese to the meat and then ball it up. So yummy!! You have to watch the grease from the cheese doesn't flame up though. You could add mushrooms and swiss cheese to the A1 and onion as well.

I make the Lipton soup version of the burger...the recipe is on the box...although I usually use beefy onion instead of regualar onion soup. the burger is so juicy when you are done...the key to a juicy burger is not to squeeze it when you cook it!

I usually just add garlic salt, pepper, and a little Worcestershire too. But the real secret to BBQing burgers is in the forming!
Smoosh them together really well, then roll into a ball...I usually do 4 per lb too. Once it's in a ball, flatten it out with big FAT edges and a skinny middle...so it looks kind of like a button. The fatter the edge, the better they will stay together and cook evenly. If the burger is too fat in the middle, it doesn't cook all the way and the edges are crisp.
Thanks for the suggestion...I'm making burgers for dinner now...I think I'll add some mushrooms and jack cheese since I'm cooking them at home! YUMMMMM!
HAve a fun camping trip!

You can also add shredded zucchini & oatmeal, along with the egg & seasonings, to stretch it out..... kids will never know if there's cheese on top. Nice & moist that way too.
