Last week's news here was dominated by the news of a little 3 year old girl whose Chinese father took her out of New Zealand and abandoned her at a Railway Station in Australia. By the time she was discovered he had fled on a plane to the USA. The NZ police discovered the body of her mother in the family car outside their home here in Auckland. US police are now looking for the father but he has got a good start. He was previously married to another woman with whom he had another child...another girl and she is now grown up (27 years) with her own baby boy and a partner. She didn't even know this little girl existed and now she has an abandoned, motherless half sister. The big sister had also been badly treated by her father and she had not spoken to him for years.Authorities are talking to her and her grandmother who is flying out from China to discuss Little Pumpkin's future. Why is she called Little Pumpkin? Well, she was wearing Pumpkin Patch clothes and she has a Chinese name and she is only three, so I think the police had a problem understanding her. I hope the US police can find this heartless man. For those who may remember this stort I posted late last year...He's been caught! After apppearing twice on America's Most wanted, some Chinese people in the States recognised him, invited him over then held him and called the police. He is now being held in a US jail awaiting extradition back to NZ where he will stand trial.Little Pumpkin has been taken back to China to live with her grandparens where she is reported to be settling very well.Christina
I've been following this on MSN. SO sad. Based on what I've read, she was close to her mother.I hope that her grandmother and/or sister can step in and give her all the love she needs and deserves. As for him:
Sounds like to me Little Pumpkin is better off without her father. Still, she should not have been left alone like that. Thankfully, there were people around who noticed and were able to help her. I hope she'll still be able to have a childhood that is happy.

Life is always stranger than fiction. This is an unbelievable story. I bet Little Pumpkin is as cute as can be. I pray she is taken care of and loved but I'm afraid something like this can be so traumatizing that it could affect anyone's life forever. I hope they find this guy.

I'd only known about this up to the point that she had been abandoned and they knew he'd flown to the US.I wondered if the mom was dead and sadly, that is true. I wonder if the sister will raise the little girl now. What a sad, sad story all the way around.
What a sad story!

Like I always say, I hope there's a special hell for those who hurt children and animals.
