When it comes to gift cards, I'm rushing out the door to spend them right away. However, I suppose if you have a tendency to hoard the cards, you could do this... If the card is from a retail store, buy something from the store and then take it back for a cash refund. At least that way you will have money to burn instead of a card that might expire. If the card is to an eating establishment, you will have to use it or could give it to someone else for a gift. Am I bad? Drop a hint to family and friends that your favorite place to shop is Michael's or Hobby Lobby. At least that way you can buy scrapping supplies, which we all can't live without.
