I know what you mean!! I would be scared that no answer might let somebody think there was nobody home and then they break in. The dogs are going to convince most people with bad intentions to look elsewhere for easier pickin's (even though the only people in danger from them is those who go into anaphalactic shock from dog spit!).

nope. we seldom use our front door and everybody we know including the mailman know that so if I am here by myself, the house is all buttoned up and I do not answer the door. I go into the front bedroom and peek out the curtain to see who walks away from my house too. We have no peephole in our door since DH replaced it about 2 years ago and the window in the door and alongside it are that weird glass that lets in light but you cant see really through it.

I do usually answer but I also have my cell phone and I dial 911 before I open the door. If something happens my finger is on send.

Not sure. We don't get many strangers where I live, it's too far out in the boonies and we're pretty far back from the road. If someone was knocking, though, I'd probably answer because it could be my landlady. Unfortunately, I can't see my front steps from the upstairs window, so I have to go all the way downstairs.

I have two obnoxious dogs that let me know someone is here long before they decide to knock on the door. So, sometimes they decide NOT to knock, LOL! But, sometimes I answer it just to get the dogs to shut up...Depends on the situation (time of day, who else is home, etc.). Doesn't usually happen unless its some religious person trying to "save" me.
