I was 10 years old. My grandparents took me out to dinner and I remember hearing the news come over the radio that was playing in the restaurant. My mom was a huge Elivs fan and I remember thinking about her while I was out and wondering if she was sad.

I was 10. All I remember is a couple of my female classmates being very upset and in tears. One of them happened to have a birthday that day.

I was 21, newly married, and I was never a fan, so I can't really say what I thought or felt.

I had just turned 5 a week before, so I had just started school. Nothing significant happened in my house that day that I remember.

I was 13, but I don't remember how I heard the news. Can't say I was much of a fan at the time, so it didn't make much of an impression back then.

I was shocked to my toes. When I heard HOW he died, I was angry and disgusted that he threw away such a fantastic talent.

Me too! :bluelol: Although I'm fairly certain we were either planning for Disney, at Disney, or just returned from Disney, because that was around the time of my very first trip to Disney World.

My dh and I had just been to Graceland, stood outside the gates and talked about going on a tour of it. But we didn't. Then we got home and just two or three days later, Elvis died. I was very upset and I worried about my dh finding out. Turned out, he was ok with it. I thought he would be very upset. Nope.

I was 12 and I was just telling dh about this on the 16th. I was sitting in my dad's recliner and they came over the TV and announced it so I walked outside to tell my mom and dad and for some reason I thought they would be super upset.

They just looked up from cutting wood, listened to me, and went back to their work. I remember walking back to my chair thinking how uneventful my announcement had been.

My Dad was never a fan and I guess my mom really wasn't either.

I was 18 at the time, wasn't a fan of his music but did think he was really cute in his younger days. I saw it on the evening news, nothing big happened, I felt sad about it, particularly about the way he died.

Re: August 16, 1977 What Were You Doing . . . .
I was almost 13 and remember that day like it was yesterday. My mom being a HUGE fan, listened to his music every every day. So of course I grew up listening to it because mom didn't work. I loved his music. We even watched all of his movies. Dad was a fan as well but not like mom. I remember being outside under a tree with a friend and we were playing barbies. The tree was right outside the kitchen window. Mom liked us playing there the best because she could watch us while she did the dishes. So as we were playing all of a sudden I heard dishes crash to the floor and mom yelling "No.....no.....it can't be". I ran into the house because of her screaming and the crashing. I asked her what was wrong and if she was ok. That is when, through all of her tears, she told me that he had died. It was a very sad day in our household. We have been to Graceland and I am so happy that we were able to go. Mom took pictures of his grave. A few years later when my mom was sick, she told me that when she died she would still be happy because she would be able to meet Elvis in person.
