Hurricane Hanna - *UPDATE #2*
Update as of 7:45pm CST:
Hurricane Hanna made landfall at 5pm near Port Mansfield, Texas (about 85 miles south of me) as a strong Cat 1. She finally made a southwesterly turn, and counties south and west of me are dealing with Tornado Warnings. Storm surge here has flooded our beaches, flooded the first floor of the Art Musuem of South Texas on the Bay, and has collapsed one of our piers. Power outages all over in the city, closest to the water. We are doing pretty good here inland. Power, Internet and Cell Service still up and running. Rain is just starting to pick up again. Last time we checked, about an inch and a half of rain from 8pm last night to 6pm this evening. Winds are starting to pick up as well.

**************************************************************************************************************************

Update as of 1pm CST:
Hurricane Hanna is starting to make a SW turn, and they've narrowed down the landfall in/around Kenedy County. That would be about 55 miles south of me. Kenedy County is extremely rural, and is the 3rd least populous county here in Texas (about 400 people). Much less populous compared to other counties. We are now expected to only receive TS winds, and landfall is expected to be here around 7pm. However, due to her size, we will sustain those winds all night long.

Currently, winds have picked up here and we've only had a stray light shower. Storm surge has been increased to 3-7 feet as landfall could occur around High Tide. Its 2020, why not, right? Our beaches were shut down yesterday and the access roads are now flooded. Bridges as well. We are safe from Storm Surge as my area isn't even on the map and it goes up to 20 ft storm surge.

Next Update is scheduled around 4pm from the NHC.

*******************************************************************

Good morning cherries! As some of ya'll know, we (DH and I) have been keeping our eye on the Gulf of Mexico. Originally Hanna was supposed to be just a weak TS, hitting north of us which we would have LOVED as we would have gotten minimal winds and barely any rain. But overnight, she kept moving SW, more and more and now landfall is expected to be South of us - between Baffin Bay and Brownsville. To help give you a perspective, Baffiin Bay is about 20 miles south of us. And Brownsville, well, that's as far south as you can get in Texas - about 130 miles south of here!

She just turned into a Cat 1 at 7:30AM CST, sustaining winds of 75 mph, and gusting up to 80-90 mph. She is 300 miles wide with a 30 mile wide eye. This is fairly good news as the tighter the eye, the more damaging she would be. She also has sped up - trekking 15 mph (she was hovering around 8-9 mph last night). She should be knocking on the Texas Coastline between 1 and 4pm. Storm surge is going to be minimal - between 2 and 5 feet.

At landfall, we will be expecting Hurricane Force winds and rain that will be coming down like buckets. I live in Flood Zone E and there are Five Flood Zones here in Corpus Christi. A thru E. And to help ya'll out, Flood Zone A is the Island/Beaches. So I'm that far enough inland that flooding is not a huge risk like others. And I was telling peeps on the Scrap a Day on Thursday that we had a full home generator installed a few months after Harvey. So if we lose power, we will be okay. AND, we have automatic storm shutters. On all windows and doors. All we do is push a button. The only thing we can't control is if we lost cell service and/or Internet.

The outer bands are starting to come in, with just a light shower (no thunder/lightening yet) at about 8am that lasted 10 minutes. WInds are about 10 mph right now, gusting to around 15 mph.

I will update ya'll when I can. I am on Facebook so if you already follow me, I'm sure you'll see updates. I've been in contact with Barb (pawprints) and Susan (suewho) the last 48 hrs, so if I can't give ya'll an update, I'm sure they can.

After breakast and laundry, I'm planning on scrapping!

Have a great day cherries!

Stay safe, Brandy! I'm so glad you hear you have a full house generator. We had a small one, but got a bigger one after our last power outage a few years ago that lasted a week. Will keep good thoughts and prayers!

I'll be thinking of you all, Brandy!  Glad to hear about the generator and shutters!  Stay safe!
OCD is not an adjective.  It is not a personality quirk. It is not synonymous with being organized.  It is a complex and debilitating mental health illness that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and is defined by the presence of unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. 💙 I am an OCD warrior and I fight for my son. 💙
