Your dh bakes? Wow! And your friend sends cookies? Maybe you could introduce us so she can send cookies to me. Well......it would be nice.MindySue wrote:I bake frequently. It's been a few months since I made one. My DH made an Angel Food cake a few weeks ago. It was delicious and from a box mix. I do both from scratch and mix, depending on the flavor. DH has a really good recipe for icing that he does... heavy whipping cream, cream cheese and powdered sugar. I make a mocha icing from scratch but haven't done it in quite awhile. I also have a good butter cream recipe that one of my best friends gave to me. She makes THE BEST cakes and icing. Sadly she lives in New Mexico so it's been years since I've tasted any of her creations. However, she does send me cookies periodically.

I had not considered using it that way; for meatloaf or lasagna, but thanks for the tip. A new world is opening for me.cort wrote:My last cake was an orange cake with vanilla icing.
I have a Kitchen aide and I lovvveee it.![]()
I use mine to mix my ingredients for meat loaf and for lasagna filling.
One of my favorite cakes is a fuzzy navel cake...it's so yummy!
congrats on your new mixer...have fun!

Darlene, any time you would like to use it, just give me a call. You can come here. What a great excuse to meet.CherryTat wrote:I want a Kitchen Aide mixer!!! SO jealous

I did not know that there was gluten free brownie mix. Hmmmm. Is almond flour at Walmart?scrapscot wrote:It's been ages since I've baked a cake; I baked Gluten free brownies from a mix just the other day and I bake almond-flour muffins quite frequently. I used to bake cakes for family baby showers and things and made homemade buttercream frosting but the cakes were frox a mix.

But it was delicous, right?ncokely wrote:Baked a cake last night for a funeral dinner---not a fun reason.![]()
It was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

It sounds like your dh uses a Kitchen Aid, too. I don't really know of course, but lucky him.mgehrke wrote:I don't bake cakes that often. DH is the one who loves to bake. Dd gave him a mixer for Christmas 2010. I forget what kind it is, but it has the rotating plate that the bowl sits on and turns. He makes cakes all of the time from a box. He cheats and uses a can of frosting. Doesn't matter, they are always good. It sounds like you got a very nice present. Enjoy.

I would love a recipe. Thanks. Please send. I had no icing for the cake I made yesterday, but it was very good without it. It's gone!oceanbreezes423 wrote:I baked a cake for my friends BD a few weeks ago. Bibi, if you want some icing recipes, let me know. I have 2 I use often, one is light and fluffy, not so sweet, the other good for decorating.

Anytime! Anytime at all. You are always welcome at my house.debamas wrote:Now that the kids are grown and out of the house, I rarely bake but I did bake a cake for my dh's birthday in Dec. From a mix but was quite good. German chocolate and a premade icing. I used to do my icings from scratch, buttercream and chocolate. Enjoy your mixer. My dd just borrowed my hand mixer now I'm mixerless but I know where I can come get dessert now
Bibi
Awww, Sandy. You have a sweet dh, for sure. I think we have a lot in common. I have never made a white cake, but I will try one soon. What kind of icing did you use?writerlady wrote:Congratulations on your mixer, Bibi! Dh gave me a new KitchenAid mixer for Christmas - and it has made baking so much easier for me. I made a white cake yesterday for Valentine's Day. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!

That sounds interesting. What is an Angry Birds cake? Never heard of it. Were you mad at him on his birthday?nun69 wrote:I would love to have a kitchen aid!!! I just made Ben a Angry Birds cake for his birthday last week, but I make box cakes

What a sweet thing your parents did! Can you send me the recipe for the cheesecake, pretty please. I would like to try it.FairyMouseMom wrote:Well, I just baked a cheesecake (from scratch) on Monday...that I colored "pink" ... for my kids!!! I absolutely LOVE that my parents gave me their old Kitchen Aid mixer. I relish it like you wouldn't believe! (My ex took the one we had....)

How do you get all the layers? It is beautiful!gine wrote:I baked Two cakes tonight. They are both ordered for a party Saturday
It is a traditional Norwegian cake "Kransekake'' made from almonds,
I will assemble them Saturday, when they are done they look like this one that I made for HRM crownpricess Mette Marit's visit to Florida

What a good idea! Do you put icing on it? I guess with a basic cake, you could do just about anything.Charleneanne wrote:About a week ago. I have a recipe that makes one layer 8x8 square cake. It is a basic recipe and then you add whatever flavor your want like lemon peel and lemon extract or cocoa or cinnamon/cloves/nutmeg or just leave it a plain yellow layer cake. My DH and I are fond of these little one layer cakes and I make them often.

I made BF a german's chocolate cake in bundt cake form for his birthday.
This sucker was, every BIT, including frosting, made from scratch. It was a royal pain in my butt, and then probably went straight TO my butt when I ate too much of it.
And because the recipe is so huge, we still have cupcakes and frosting in the freezer. OY VEY!

Where is mine? Did you leave me any at all? I want some. I think you are sweet to make it from scratch. Maybe all the work you did took care of the calories. I have a saying, " I love the _____(fill in the blank with just about any kind of food) and it loves me! The two favorites I do is a mayonnaise cake and a boston cream cake (nothing like you buy in the stores). It is messy and gooey and oh, so good!

Thanks =)
all the rings are baked separately in forms (!8) The almonds have to be grinded by hand and the dough rolled out before baked in the forms
I made 17 of them during November-December last year and 3 so far this year LOL
